Changes in the Board of Directors

Gilles Jean has assumed the presidency of the Association for the past two years. As his term expires, Gilles informed the board of directors that he did not wish to request his renewal.

During his tenure, Gilles, among other things, piloted the aviation safety program, both in communication and training. He also set up the partnership program with certain flight schools in Quebec. His contribution made it possible to lay the foundations for a continuation of our aviation safety program.

The Board of Directors thanks him for his involvement and his contribution to the advancement of the Association. Gilles will nonetheless continue to contribute to the aviation safety program through his safety capsules, which are regularly published in L'Express and the review L'Aviateur.

Thanks Gilles

Sylvain Larivière leaves the board of directors after a two-year term. We understand that his family and professional obligations no longer allow him to devote himself as much as he would like.

In addition to his participation on the board of directors, we owe Sylvain the program of discounts on equipment such as SPOT and Garmin which was implemented last summer.

Thank you Sylvain for your contribution.

Pierre Drapeau, a new member on the board of directors

Pierre retired from NavCanada in 2017 after working as an air traffic controller for 37 years.

He is also a private pilot with more than 500 hours to his credit and owns an aircraft parked at Lachute airport. Member of Aviateurs.Québec since 2008, he decided to join the team of the board of directors to contribute in his own way to the mission of Aviateurs.Québec. His interest is mainly in the training component both as a trainer and as responsible for this file at Aviateurs.Québec.

Welcome Pierre.

At a special meeting of the board of directors on March 31, Michel Chartier was elected chairman of the board of directors. Michel, who has been a member of Aviateurs.Québec since 2000, wishes to focus his energies on relaunching the presence of Aviateurs.Québec within the pilot community in Quebec.

If you have suggestions or wish to contribute to the mission of Aviateurs.Québec, we invite you to join Michel at the following address: chartierm@aviateurs.quebec

CANCELLATION OF THE LOBSTER DINNER OF MAY 23, 2020

It is with great regret that we had to resign ourselves to cancel our traditional Lobster dinner, scheduled for May 23. Indeed, following the new restrictions issued by the Premier of Quebec, Mr. François Legault, we must comply and help against the spread of COVID-19. Consequently, the Aviateurs.Québec board of directors also decided to cancel its annual auction, despite the significant financial losses for our association. On a positive note, in the last days, we took action to plan an event for the aviators of Quebec, when the government does not allow it.

Your registration for the 2020 Lobster dinner will be automatically reimbursed according to the payment method used during the purchase.

Aviateurs.Québec would like to thank the volunteers and partners who have invested time and effort in the preparation of this event.

Control of access to airport infrastructure

The Quebec Department of Transport issued this press release yesterday to carriers and air operators. It should also be understood that this notice is also intended for private air operations.

The Minister of Transport informs the population as well as the carriers and air operators that access control to airport infrastructure is in effect. This measure concerns flights to all airports (provincial, federal, municipal and private) located in the eight territories subject to non-essential travel restrictions imposed by the Government of Quebec. These restrictions are therefore intended to protect these territories from COVID-19.

The territories concerned are Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, Bas-Saint-Laurent, Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Côte-Nord, Nord-du-Québec, Nunavik and Terres-Cries-de-la-Baie-James.

Before accessing any airport, passengers are advised to read the following instructions:

1. Do not have any symptoms related to COVID-19 (eg, cough, fever, etc.); 2. Have booked a boarding pass; 3. Travel for essential reasons (e.g. work for a business or service deemed essential, humanitarian or health care reasons, etc.).

For any other question, passengers are invited to contact their carrier directly. Private aircraft operators are expected to ensure that passengers comply with instructions 1 and 3.

During the pandemic

  • The Ministère des Transports (MTQ) continues its operations while remaining on active watch and continuously monitoring the evolution of the pandemic.
  • The MTQ's mission remains at all times to ensure, throughout the territory, the sustainable mobility of people and goods through efficient and safe transportation systems that contribute to the development of Quebec.
  • The MTQ encourages anyone who wishes to learn more about COVID-19 to consult Québec.ça / coronavirus or even to call 1 877 644-4545. ''
