UBCO Life is a newsletter delivered twice per month to continuing undergraduate students, featuring academic and social events, upcoming deadlines, university news, and other issues relevant to student life and success at UBC Okanagan.

Weeks of Welcome

Students are encouraged to join the UBC community and participate in all that UBCO has to offer. Weeks of Welcome runs throughout the month of September and is a great opportunity for all students to get involved and attend workshops, info sessions, and other events. Campus resources and student clubs will host a variety of events, and more events will be added throughout the month.

The UBCO Heat are back in action

Did you know all Heat home games are free for UBCO students? Just bring your UBCcard, grab your Heat gear and come out to Nonis Field to cheer on the UBCO Heat soccer teams at their season home openers!

The men’s soccer season starts on August 26 against the Victoria Vikes, followed by a classic sister-school showdown with the UBC Thunderbirds on August 27. Kickoff is at 6 pm for both matches.

On the women’s side, the action begins on September 3 as the Heat faceoff against the UNBC Timberwolves. The following day the Heat will face the Calgary Dinos. Both matches begin at noon.

The first 100 fans at the games on August 26 and September 3 will receive free UBCO Heat sunglasses!

Mode-Shift: A campus commuting event

Join Campus Planning and the Sustainability Office on August 23 for an interactive commuting event from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm in the Arrival Plaza (at the base of the stairs next to the Admin Building). 

Take a spin on an e-bike, learn about the U-PASS program, and get bike maintenance tips from UBCycles.

Save the dates: September 12 and 13 is intramural registration

Intramural sports are a great way to keep active, make friends, and have fun! Several different sport and league options are available ranging from competitive to just for fun. To ensure equitable registration processes for all participants, a lottery system has been implemented. Mark your calendar for September 12 or 13 and register yourself or your team for the lottery.

Paddle board lessons

Recreation has partnered with the Kelowna Paddle Centre to offer this unique experience for UBCO students, faculty, and staff. Sessions include three weekly lessons on Sunday afternoons, as well as full equipment rentals.

Golf lessons

Join Recreation at the Okanagan Golf Club for golf lessons! Group lessons are a great way to learn all aspects of the game with your friends in a fun and relaxing atmosphere. Group lessons include four, 1-hour sessions on Monday nights from September 12 to October 3.

Student Learning Hub

Come get free stickers and treats on September 6 and 7 from the Student Learning Hub table near the side entrance to the Library. Learn about all of their free supports, such as tutoring, writing tips, and how a professional learning strategist can help you reach your highest potential. 

The Student Learning Hub reopens on September 6 with appointments starting on September 12.

Share your UBCO experiences with thousands of students and alumni by being a Social Media Ambassador for UBCO Homecoming.

alumni UBC at UBC Okanagan is looking for students who are eager to help showcase UBCO’s school pride during our biggest celebration of the year – Homecoming! If you’re social media savvy, enjoy sharing your experiences, and love all things UBCO, we want to hear from you.
