New Publications – Profiles of Public Health Systems in Canadian Provinces and Territories

The NCCHPP has joined the Platform to Monitor the Performance of Public Health Systems research project led by principal investigators Dr. Sara Allin, Dr. Andrew Pinto and Dr. Laura Rosella from the University of Toronto.

The first phase of this project involves producing profiles of the public health systems for each of the 10 provinces and three territories in Canada.

Two documents are now available: the profile of Ontario and the methodology used to produce the profiles.

Municipal decision making and interventions have an influence on health protection and promotion, which makes municipalities key partners for the public health sector. The past year has shown that such collaborations remain utterly relevant both throughout the COVID-19 crisis and to support recovery. But how can we build alliances with the municipal sector?

In this webinar, Florence Morestin (National Collaborating Centre for Healthy Public Policy) and Jason Weppler (Grey Bruce Health Unit) will look into how public health actors can establish collaborations with municipalities with a practical focus.

New Publications

Public Health Responses for Long-Term Evacuation and Recovery

The six National Collaborating Centres for Public Health led a project to clarify the role of public health to address the long-term health and social impacts of evacuations due to natural disasters. Since First Nations communities are often hardest hit by natural disasters and long-term evacuations, the issues faced by these communities were given due priority in this work.

A series of three documents describing insights from lived experiences of disaster and evacuation, public health implications, and potential roles for public health to better support long-term emergency planning and recovery has been published.
