This Week...

It's Public Works Week, tax notices are in the mail and join us for a sea level rise management plan open house. Read on for more!

Public Works Week

May 17 to 23 marks Public Works Week, a week to recognize the vital contributions public works professionals make to our community.

Each May, the City hosts a Public Works Day event at the yard for grades 4-5 classes, where students learn about our public works crews and how they keep Nanaimo moving. We are also hosting an all-ages open house at the Public Works Yard (2020 Labieux Road) on Thursday, May 21 from 3 to 5:30 pm.

This year, we're also sharing some family-friendly learning with you at home, and what better way to learn than with our new public works-inspired ice cream flavours; taste sensations so grotesque, they're unreal (seriously, they aren't real...). Watch the video above to learn more and follow along as we release new flavours over the week and into June!

Our Coastal City - Sea Level Rise Management

Do you want to know more about how the City might adapt to future sea level rise? We are holding a public open house to discuss objectives and potential strategies, with a continued focus on Departure Bay, Downtown, Duke Point and Protection Island. Join us on May 21 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, in the Vancouver Island Conference Centre (Dodds Narrows Room A), to share thoughts, ideas and priorities.

Can't make it to the community meeting, but still want to learn more and provide feedback on sea level rise adaptation options? Fill out the options survey from May 19- June 12!

For more information on the project and the community meeting and to fill out the survey, visit the Our Coastal City page on Get Involved Nanaimo.
