New Executive Director for Indigenous team

College of the Rockies President and CEO Paul Vogt is pleases to announce the appointment of Dana Wesley (Moose Cree First Nation) to the role of Executive Director, Indigenous Strategy and Reconciliation.

"Dana's Indigenous experience in both post-secondary and the private sector will be valuable as we continue to work shoulder to shoulder with our Indigenous partners," said Vogt.

Parents Information Nights

Recruitment Officers (l-r) Jennifer Inglis and Kristy Brons are two of the presenters at a pair of virtual Parent Information Nights. These information sessions (held March 1 and 2) provide parents of high school kids with all they need to know before sending their children to the College.

Online Career Week

We've partnered with Kootenay Employment Services and WorkBC to hold the East Kootenay Online Career Week 2022 from March 1 through March 4. This year's event will include a featured speaker. Yat Li, Senior Accessibility Consultant at Presidents Group, was born with a congenital condition which requires him to wear prosthetic ears and a bone-anchored hearing aid. He will present Break Barrier - Deaf to Employment to break down myths about the costs of hiring individuals with disabilities.

Spring Break STEM Camps

Learning about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math will be fun for kids aged six to 12 this Spring Break. We'll be offering four STEM-focused camps: Junior Robotics and Stop Motion, Catapult Challenge, Environmental Outdoor Science Week, and Magical Math Camp.  Each camp will run from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm for the entire week.

Women in Trades Sampler program

Women interested in exploring a variety of trades will get that opportunity this spring, with the Women in Trades Sampler program. From April 4 to June 24, participants will explore the Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), Electrician, Carpenter, Piping, Welder, and Automotive trades - all tuition free!

New technology for students nurses

The learning experience for our Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Practical Nursing students recently got a technological boost, thanks to the addition of a new birthing simulator. The birthing manikin, dubbed Noelle, moves through all stages of labour concluding with the birth of a 'baby' named Tori and a 'placenta'.

A Fresh Start

When Tanya Siddiqui moved to Canada, she was looking to continue her career as a licensed early childhood educator. Being licensed in BC meant having to update her education. She chose College of the Rockies to complete the ECE program because it was available online and was affordable. Upon completing both the Early Childhood Education certificate and the Infant/Todder diploma, Tanya enrolled at the University of Victoria for her bachelor's degree in Child and Youth Care. She's now a certified childcare licensing officer and a principal of a large childcare centre for children aged one to five.

BDO Canada LLP - Cranbrook is a tremendous supporter of College of the Rockies students. Not only do they annually contribute to the BDO Canada LLP Scholarship, a $1,000 tuition award, but they also frequently hire College graduates - including partner Mike Calder.

Important Dates - March/April 2022
 

 

March 21 - Last day to officially withdraw from the Winter 2022 semester.

March 25 - Winter 2022 classes end for the Dental Assistant program.

March 28 - Spring 2022 classes start for the Dental Assistant program.
                   - Last day to register for Winter 2022 UACE Directed Studies courses (offered at Fernie  
                     campus for spring/summer)

March 31 -  Applications received by this date for Fall 2022 receive priority processing.

April 4 - Early registration opens for all semestered courses for Fall 2022 and Winter/Spring 2023.

April 13 - End of Child, Youth and Family Studies (CYFS) courses for Winter 2022 and tuition fees due
                  for CYFS Spring semester.

April 14 - Last day of Winter 2022 classes for semestered courses.

April 15 - Good Friday - College closed.

April 18 - Easter Monday - College closed.
