Beach Reports

Did you know? We test the water at Nanaimo's popular beaches weekly to make sure it's safe for everyone's enjoyment. If the quality of the water is poor, the beach may be closed. Watch the video above to learn more about our testing program in Departure Bay.

One way to help keep beaches open is to take your dogs to designated off-leash areas. Many of our off-leash areas have swimming areas for your furry friends to cool off in.

Learn more about our water testing program and find the latest beach reports by clicking on the button below.

NACL Proclamation

In celebration of 35 years serving people with diversabilities in the mid-Island, Mayor Krog has proclaimed July as "Nanaimo Association for Community Living" month.

Green Fleet Additions

Aligning with our Green Fleet Strategy, the City has replaced two gas-powered passenger vehicles with two 100% battery electric vehicles!

Scenarios exploration is an opportunity to discuss different ways our City could grow, understand challenges and opportunities, and work towards our future plan. Over the summer and into fall we will be working with the community to understand what makes most sense for Nanaimo's path forward. Complete the Scenarios Exploration Survey to weigh in on early scenarios! As a thank you, you can enter a prize draw to win one of ten $50 gift cards to a Nanaimo eatery of your choice!

We are offering eight online Our City, Our Choices Scenarios Workshops at different times of the day - we're hoping one works for you! The information and agenda will be the same for all meetings. Meetings will be hosted online via Zoom. However, if you are unable to attend online, the City will also provide a physical meeting room for attendees to meet and connect into the meeting.

Butt Out Safely

The warm, dry weather continues and so does the risk of wildfires.

Please make sure to safely dispose of smoking materials (cigarettes, etc.) and don't throw them out the window of a vehicle. Even a tiny spark can cause a wildfire. Also, please note that Nanaimo's parks and trails are smoke-free.

Let's all do our part to make sure everyone enjoys a safe summer.

Did you know?

Every time you recycle, it makes a difference! The video above shows what happens to the items that we recycle. To learn more about what goes in your blue bin and what goes to the depot, check out the What Goes Where tool on the Nanaimo Recycles app - available for download on the AppStore and GooglePlay or on the City website.

Will Your Commute Be Affected This Week?
