Updated Building Fees Come into Effect September 1, 2025

Effective September 1, 2025, the Town of The Blue Mountains will implement changes to its Building Fees By-law following Council’s formal adoption of an amendment to By-law 2014-18. These updates include revised building permit fees (listed on Schedule A) and reflect improved operational processes within the Building Services Department.

Council has deferred a decision on updates to fees related to Planning and Engineering Services, directing staff to return with a follow-up report at the September 16, 2025, Committee of the Whole meeting.

The fee changes are part of a larger review of development-related fees led by Watson & Associates Economists Ltd., with the goal of supporting full cost recovery while keeping rates competitive with similar municipalities.

Parking signs in Clarksburg

2 Hour Time Limit on Parking in Clarksburg

There is now a two-hour time limit on parking in Clarksburg from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday to Sunday. Recently approved by Town Council, this change was officially adopted by Grey County Council in July.

Now implemented on Marsh Street in Clarksburg, signs have been installed to indicate the areas where timed parking is being enforced. Timed parking is being introduced following Staff Report SI.25.028 "Follow Up Regarding Clarksburg Village Association Deputation" being brought to Council on July 7, 2025. The report detailed discussions between the Town and the Clarksburg Village Association to improve parking in the downtown area.

Pretty River Beach

Be Water Safe This Summer in The Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains Fire Department and the Grey Bruce Public Health Unit have tips to keep you safe this summer.

The Health Unit regularly tests water at high-use beaches, including Northwinds Beach and Little River Beach here in The Blue Mountains. Test results can be delayed, but these tips will help you make an informed decision about water quality before swimming:

  1. Do not swim if the beach is posted with a warning sign.
  2. Do not swim if there has been a heavy rainfall in the last 24 to 48 hours. Bacteria levels may be higher than usual from stormwater runoff.
  3. Do not swim if the water is so cloudy that you can not see your feet at adult waist depth. Cloudy water may indicate higher bacteria levels.
  4. Do not swim if there are any other problems with the beach such as a large number of waterfowl, dead fish, algae/scum or dangerous debris.

The Blue Mountains Fire Department has responded to multiple rescue calls for boaters this summer who got swept offshore by wind and currents. Every time you head to the water, remember:

  1. Have appropriate safety equipment, including PFD's or life jackets
  2. Respect your limitations and abilities
  3. Check conditions before you go
  4. Let someone know where you're going and when you should be back
  5. If possible, take a cell phone in a waterproof, floating case

For more information about water quality and testing, visit the Grey Bruce Public Health website.
