Imagine Day Pep Rally

September 8th, 2020 | 11:15AM PDT

Join us in celebrating the new school year at our virtual welcome events on September 8th, 2020. It promises to inspire school spirit in you! The entire UBC community — from students to faculty and staff — is invited to attend the Vancouver pep rally at 11:15 a.m. PDT on YouTube or Panopto.

UBC Homecoming

September 25th, 2020 | 7PM PST

UBC’s Homecoming is a celebrated tradition to kick-off the start of the school year and it is our biggest school spirit event. This year is no different. Join us in a virtual celebration featuring an all-star line-up of UBC notables, familiar faces and surprise guests. Whether you’re a first-year or returning student, you’ll want to attend!

Everyone is invited but our show has been created just for you, with appearances by:

Kinesiology Co-op Program Applications Intake

Application Open: September 1st, 9:00AM - September 24th, 4:30PM

The UBC Kinesiology Co-op Program is an opportunity to build upon your current successes in academics and prepare you for transition into the workplace through an environment focued on learning and support. Extensive training in crafting resumes and cover letters and building interviewing skills are the foundation of the program. Each work term is a full-time paid position that will provide you with experience and skills to help bridge the gap between school and work. 

The application period for 2020 will be open from September 1st, 2020 at 9:00 am to September 24th, 2020 at 4:30 pm.

Are you looking for guidance on your future career path?

The Kinesiology Mentorship Program will return this October for its 12th year and we invite students to apply.

As a part of a small, cohort-based program, you will:

  • be paired with a KIN alumni in a 1:1 mentoring partnership
  • expand your peer and professional networks
  • engage in career-related conversations
  • gain key industry knowledge and;
  • develop essenttial workplace skills that will set you up for success beyond graduation.

Deadline: Wednesday, September 23rd, 2020 @ 11:59 pm PST.

ISCI 490 Student Directed Seminar

Have you heard of Intermittent Fasting (IF)? Are you interested in learning about the science behind IF? If you are, make sure to check out ISCI 490!

In this course, we will look at the underlying physiological and metabolic changes involved in intermittent fasting through peer-reviewed literature and up-to-date research. Additionally, explore IF's rationale in improving insulin sensitivity and its therapeutic role in various health conditions, such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and more. This course is offered through the Department of Integrated Science and is open to all students.

Mental health problems among young people in Canada have been rising — a trend that coincides with growing social media usage.

To see whether the two trends are connected, UBC professor Matt Lowe is leading a study on the link between social media usage and well-being, depression and body image.

Move More, Learn More Program

Beginning October 8th, 2020

Are you interested in moving more while learning about how to stay fit and healthy? If the answer is ‘Yes’! Here is an opportunity you do not want to miss!

Move More, Learn More is an 8-week program by UBC Recreation that is designed for Asian Women students who want to improve their health and fitness. This eight-week program includes two scheduled weekly sessions, with a different health learning topic or private group physical activity each session. The program starts on October 5th, 2020.

Library Service Updates:

Beginning September 8th, 2020 

As of September 8th, 2020, UBC Library will provide bookable study space for students, faculty and staff in the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre Monday through Saturday. This space will include access to desktop computers, printing and scanning and it will be organized to ensure safe physical distancing at all times. Masks are encouraged. 

This space will be open from 9:00 am - 7:00 pm Monday through Friday and 10:00 am - 6:00 pm on Saturdays. The study space must be reserved on line 24 hours in advance. Library users will be limited to 2 reservations per week.
