Message from the President

Guillemets

Dear members, dear partners,

What a pleasure it was to meet you again last Monday for another edition of Aéro Montréal’s Golf or Bike Classic! After many months of virtual exchanges, I am proud of the efforts that were made to maintain this historic annual get-together of Aéro Montréal!

More than 250 of you were present at this dual sporting event. Whether it was the golf or the cycling activity, we had the chance to find special moments, in person, to strengthen our business ties: thank you all for participating!

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank in particular the generous partners who supported this event. I invite you to take a look here at some photos of the event.

September is starting with its share of projects and events, which I hope will allow us to continue these networking moments.

In this regard, I invite you to mark October 26th in your agendas to attend the second part of the Global Aerospace Supply Chain Summit. Registration is now open so don’t wait any longer!

I wish you all a terrific autumn season,

SUZANNE M. BENOÎT, President of Aéro Montréal

Montréal Aviation Museum - Did you know?

Musée de l'aviation de Montréal

The Montreal Aviation Museum (MAM) is a “working museum.” In addition to experiencing the more traditional aspects of an aviation museum and art gallery, the public can also interact with their volunteers working on the restoration of vintage aircraft and engines and learn about the techniques and skills required. One of their current projects is the restoration of a popular Noorduyn “Norseman” utility and bush plane that was designed and produced in Montréal. They are located on the Macdonald campus of McGill University in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue. During the summer, the MAM is open Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. To get to the museum, visit their website: www.mam.quebec. The site also provides a virtual tour of the museum.

Mapping the innovation transformation: UAV projects in Canada and Germany

Inscription à Mapping the innovation transformation: UAV projects in Canada and German

In the next edition of the Hamburg-Montréal webinar series, we will focus on drone projects in Canada and Germany.

The Canadian collaborative project, “St. Bernard Search and Rescue Drone,” is evaluating whether semi-autonomous drones are a suitable solution for an immediate, low-cost and low-risk search operation in a known ski area, for example after an avalanche, in support of our beloved St. Bernards. This research project will result in the delivery of a prototype capable of screening a mountain area for people in distress and sending their location to a ground station to enable rescue.

The “U-Space Sandbox in the Port of Hamburg” project shows how a U-Space can be implemented – from installation and commissioning to regular monitoring of drone traffic. In areas with heavy air traffic, drones will in future receive their own traffic system. This should make it possible to carry out drone flights simply, safely and efficiently. This is the idea behind U-Space, which so far only exists on paper. But that is about to change. During the test flights, many different drones will be flying in Hamburg’s airspace.
