Thompson Rivers University

Hello,

Greetings from Thompson Rivers University. This is our fourth update for new international students regarding the Winter 2021 (January) semester intake. This is a time-sensitive announcement and your prompt action is required to ensure a successful beginning of the Winter 2021 semester.

Winter 2021 advanced registration process for specific countries

To mitigate the impact caused by the closures of the Canadian Visa Application Centres in addition to study permit processing delays amid the COVID-19 pandemic, TRU will allow students from specific countries and regions to register for the Winter 2021 semester while their study permit applications are still in process. TRU guarantees a full tuition refund if the final study permit refusal is received before April 28, 2021. This timeline can be extended to August 1, 2021, for students who need additional time to obtain the final study permit decision.

Eligibility:

  1. You are a citizen of one of the following countries/regions:
Brazil, China, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Panama, Poland, Russian Federation, South Korea, Sweden, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, and Vietnam.

  2. You are a new student who has been accepted to TRU for the Winter 2021 semester intake. This includes students who were deferred to the Winter 2021 semester intake.

  3. You applied for a study permit online on or before December 15, 2020 and have received a confirmation from IRCC. A sample of this confirmation document can be found here

Process and Terms:

  1. To request registration, please submit this form immediately. Requests will be considered until December 15.

  2. Once registered, you will be enrolled for the Winter 2021 semester. You can then study virtually from your home country or in Canada if you are permitted to travel.

  3. If your study permit is granted, you will receive eligible academic credits towards your degree or diploma.

  4. If your study permit is rejected, you will have the following options:
    • You are encouraged to re-apply for your study permit.
    • You may request a full refund without penalty (CAD $200 administrative fees apply).
In this case, no academic credits will be awarded.
    • You may continue the program and receive academic credits, without a refund.

  5. Once your study permit result has been received, you must inform us by submitting this form within five business days.

  6. The advanced registration process is valid for Winter 2021 semester intake only. You will not be allowed to register for future semesters unless:
    • you receive a study permit or
    • you sign a waiver requesting to continue studying without a study permit.

If you are not eligible for the advanced registration process, you have two options:

  1. Start the Winter 2021 semester without a study permit approval by signing this waiver, understanding the risks and impact on your Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP), as well as, accepting the terms of our refund rules, or,

  2. Have your registration deleted with the option to defer to the next available intake.
