Saskatchewan recognizes World Ovarian Cancer Day

Saskatchewan has contributed $2 million to Ovarian Cancer Canada (OCC) since 2020 to support critical ovarian cancer research happening in the province. This investment has supported research and clinical trials that benefit patients by improving diagnosis, treatment options, outcomes and survival rates for women.

SHA CARES - Living our Values

Mental Health Week is a time to recognize the people who show up every day to support mental well-being across our communities.

Across Saskatchewan, mental health professionals work alongside patients, residents and their families, offering support rooted in compassion, respect and care.

This week, we want to say thank you to the many teams whose commitment makes a real difference.

 Recognition and Appreciation

Former patients give back through volunteerism

Many volunteers give back to Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) programs that supported them, including cardiac programs like Moose Jaw Cardiaction and the Saskatoon Coronary Artery Rehabilitation Group (CARG). These programs connect patients with volunteers who draw on lived experience to inspire confidence and hope.

Moose Jaw Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse Brandy McFadden values their contributions to the team and their strong connections volunteers build: “They use their personal experience to understand people at their level.”

“When people first come, they’re scared. Because we’ve been through it too, we can show them there’s nothing to be afraid of,” said Cardiaction volunteers Barry and Tim.

CARG volunteer Jim adds, “They [look] at me and figure he looks like he’s doing okay, I guess I can, too.”

Thank you to the 11 Cardiaction and 13 CARG volunteers who give over 1,850 hours annually as part of the team achieving the SHA Mission: We care. We work together to improve health and well-being; every day, for everyone.

Emergency Preparedness Week

Emergency Preparedness Week (May 3-9, 2026) encourages people in Canada to take concrete actions to be better prepared during emergencies. This special week is a national effort lead by Public Safety Canada, provincial and territorial emergency management organizations, Indigenous organizations, non-governmental organizations, and private sector.

Preparing for emergencies goes beyond having a plan – it includes a fundamental element of connection. Strong relationships and trust built before an emergency make it easier for people to support one another during and after an incident.

This year’s theme, “In it together,” reflects that reality: our readiness and resilience are stronger when we look out for each other.

  • Reach out: Say hi or introduce yourself to someone new.
  • Look out: Check in with colleagues or community members after an incident.
  • Help out: Small actions can make a big difference.

Across the SHA, preparedness is built through the actions we take every day – staying informed, supporting one another, and being ready to respond when needed.

 Staff Information

College Drive Saskatoon - changes to RUH and JPCH access

As construction continues on the City of Saskatoon’s College Drive – Bus Rapid Transit project, there are some changes in how Royal University Hospital, Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital, and the Irene & Leslie Dubé Centre for Mental Health are accessed.

Beginning May 8 at 6:00 a.m., crosswalks and sidewalks near the College Drive and University/Hospital Drive intersection will be closed. Pedestrians and cyclists will need to detour to Munroe Avenue to cross College Drive. Saskatoon Transit buses will also be detoured off the University Bridge and College Drive.

Please allow extra time for travelling to and from these facilities. Access by vehicle to Hospital Drive and these facilities is only available via westbound College Drive.
Patients and families who have booked appointments at those facilities should be made aware of possible delays and plan alternate routes.

Inter-facility staff shuttles will be permitted to use the University Bridge, but traffic delays may still occur as traffic patterns change.

Updates and additional information can be found project page below or by subscribing to the Bus Rapid Transit newsletter.

Safety Talk - Reporting Medication Incidents

Reporting medication incidents helps identify areas for improvement and learning. A medication incident can occur at any stage of the process; prescribing, transcribing and documenting, dispensing, administering or monitoring. It can be a near miss, no harm or when harm did reach a patient.

What is a barrier to reporting near miss medication incidents?

Please read the latest Safety Talk and post/share with your teams.
