REIMAGINE NANAIMO

Do you have a place in Nanaimo that you love? Share it with us! You can help us identify the places or things that you LOVE about our city and think should be carried forward, the places or things that you think we need to IMPROVE, and your BIG IDEAS for our City’s future. Pin your favourite place on our virtual map and tell us why you chose it.

While you're visiting our REIMAGINE NANAIMO site, fill out a survey or two, submit an idea and check out our Creative Community Contest. The surveys and contest will be open until November 30, 2020.

The information collected during REIMAGINE NANAIMO will guide the City on what projects to prioritize for the future.

PARKS, RECREATION & CULTURE

Be Prepared for an Emergency!

Did you know? Island residents should have a kit prepared with at least 7 days worth of supplies in the event of an emergency.

Being prepared means more than having an emergency kit (although, this is a really important part), it also means having a plan and making sure your home is prepared. Check out the Personal Preparedness page on our website for more information and watch the video below on how to make an emergency kit for your home.

Be Winter-Ready in Nanaimo Parks

We are fortunate to live in a place where we can enjoy our outdoor spaces in relative comfort year-round. However, our mild climate can turn stormy, especially during winter. When out in Nanaimo's parks and on its trails, be mindful of conditions especially after windy weather, snow falls and when the temperature dips below freezing.

Trails, boardwalks, bridges, stairs and playground equipment can become slippery and hazardous when there is rain, snow and ice. They can be littered with debris, and even tree branches, during and after wind storms. After a rain storm or a snow melt, rivers can experience high flow conditions, please exercise extreme caution when using trails along riverbanks.

To report any concerns or issues in Nanaimo's parks and trails, please call 250-756-5200 or email parksandrecreation@nanaimo.ca.

Will Your Commute be Affected?

Check out the City's Current Construction Projects page for up-to-date information on City construction projects. Here are a few projects that may affect your commute:

  • Bowen Road construction is almost done, with road markings to be completed soon! In the meantime, please drive slowly and respect temporary road markings. Thank you for your patience while we wrap things up!

  • Metral Drive, between Turner Road and Godfrey Road, has been reduced to gravel and underground utility work is underway. Traffic on the gravel road will be limited to residents only. Commuters are encouraged to plan additional time to navigate the area or preferably, to avoid the area completely by detouring on the Island Highway. Expect construction to be active Monday-Saturday, 7am-7pm.
