Public input is being requested as the District develops plans to manage Downtown parking and tourism-based parking areas more effectively. Input from residents is essential to inform the development of the District’s draft Parking Management Plan to ensure it will meet the needs of our community.

Your voice and insights matter, and we invite community members to share your experiences with parking through our community survey – available in multiple languages – to help us understand the various parking needs and challenges. The survey deadline is January 15, 2025.

The survey includes questions specific to:

  • Downtown residents
  • Downtown business owners
  • Employees of Downtown businesses
  • Residents of SeaANDSky
  • The broader community and neighbouring areas

Find the survey, parking data and background information at letstalksquamish.ca/parking-management

The District is reminding residents of ongoing disruptions as a result of the Canada Post strike action. Business and dog licence renewal reminders and utility notices were mailed in early December.

All business licences and dog licences expire December 31. Any outstanding balance on property taxes and utilities after December 31 will be subject to daily interest charges.

Due to the Canada Post service disruption, residents should anticipate a delay in receiving the following:

  • Dog licence renewal notice
  • Business licence renewal notice
  • Utility notice
  • Outstanding property tax notice
  • Outstanding utility notice

We are doing our best to communicate with residents through advertising, the District’s social media channels, our weekly newsletter and online at squamish.ca.

Please note that Municipal Hall will be closed from December 23 to December 27.

Licence Renewals: It is strongly recommended that business and dog owners renew their licence online at squamish.ca/online-services.

Business licences may also be renewed in-person at the Building Department, located in Municipal Hall, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

LANDFILL CONSTRUCTION

Construction at the landfill transfer station will begin on December 9, and we anticipate major delays for 1-2 weeks.

Limited access: Only one car will be allowed at the transfer station at a time, with limited access to bins.

Special items not accepted: tires (accepted for free at OK Tire and Kal Tire), large appliances (accepted at ASM Squamish) and small electronics and appliances (accepted at GFL depot on Queensway).

Invasive Species Disposal: The disposal of invasive species will not be accepted during this period.

Normal operating hours will remain in effect, but we kindly ask the public to limit waste drop-offs during this time.

WINTER PARKING RESTRICTIONS

Parking on select streets in Squamish is restricted to one side only until March 1, 2025. This ensures snow plows and emergency vehicles can safely navigate during winter conditions.

District of Squamish Bylaw Enforcement Officers will focus on education and provide warnings to anyone parking in a restricted area. However, vehicles parking on the No Parking side of the street may be ticketed and towed at any time to ensure community safety. The fine for impeding snow removal is $250.

For a list of affected streets and more details, visit squamish.ca/winter-parking.

NOTICE OF TRAFFIC AND NOISE IMPACTS

CLEVELAND AVENUE

There will be intermittent single-lane closures, sidewalk closures, and detours along Cleveland Avenue, Loggers Lane, and Pemberton Avenue from November 22 to December 15. These traffic disruptions will occur on weekdays only, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., to accommodate crews monitoring wells.

Additionally, on Wednesday, December 11 and Thursday, December 12, there will be a night closure from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the Loggers Lane merge with Cleveland Avenue.

Signage and detour wayfinding will be in place where traffic disruptions occur. Thank you for your patience as this work is completed.

ANNUAL WATERMAIN UPGRADES

Watermain flushing is underway.

Flushing helps remove stagnant water and unwanted build up in the pipes. During this process, you may notice brief periods where the water appears cloudy or discoloured or has a mild chlorine taste. However, the water remains safe to drink. If you experience any of these issues, simply flush your taps by running water until it clears.
