National Caregiving Day 2025: We Care

On April 1st, 2025, join us for a special virtual event in celebration of caregivers and National Caregiver Day. This year’s theme, “We Care,” celebrates all caregivers and the work of individuals who have made outstanding contributions to improving the lives of caregivers in Ontario.

At this event, we’ll honour the invaluable contributions caregivers make to the people they care for, our communities, and healthcare system, and present the inaugural Janet Beed Impact Award. We’ll also share insights about caregiving and more about the work of the Ontario Caregiver Organization.

Whether you’re a caregiver, healthcare provider, or simply someone interested in supporting caregivers, this event is for you. Don’t miss the chance to connect, learn, and be inspired.

Nourishing Caregivers with Healthy Meals

Caregivers often find themselves juggling multiple responsibilities, and in the midst of it all, their own health and well-being can take a back seat.

This March, during Nutrition Month, we’re shining a light on the importance of good nutrition.

Taking care of others is demanding, both physically and emotionally, nourishing your body through balanced meals can provide the energy, mood stability, and strength needed to tackle your caregiving role.

  • Start Your Day Right: Aim to eat within an hour of waking up to kickstart your metabolism and energy levels.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink nourishing fluids throughout the day and keep a bottle of water handy to stay hydrated.
  • Cook at Home: Try to prepare home-cooked meals; this not only enhances nutrition but can also be a fulfilling activity.
  • Choose Quality Takeout: When you do order out, opt for higher-quality takeout and delivery options that align with your nutritional needs.

In addition to these tips, keep in mind some essential nutritional guidelines for caregivers:

  • Prioritize Protein: Aim for a high protein intake in the morning, especially after an overnight fast, to fuel your day.
  • Incorporate Fiber: Focus on meals that include both protein and fiber to help keep you full and energized.
  • Don’t Skip Meals: Eating regularly will help to maintain your energy levels.
  • Limit Late-Night Eating: Try to avoid eating late at night to support better sleep and digestion.

Remember, your health is just as important as the care you provide to others.
