Online safety for children and youth

Okotoks RCMP is urging families to have conversations with children and youth about internet safety. Children and youth are spending more hours online in order to stay connected, and can potentially have more unrestricted and/or unsupervised time online. Parents should be aware of the different online apps their children are using and be aware of what content they are creating and posting online.

Hang up, heads up! Stay safe on the roads

As soon as a driver gets behind the wheel, driving should be the top thing on their mind. When a driver is distracted, focus is taken off the road and the consequences to traffic safety can be serious. Drivers in Alberta are encouraged to keep their eyes and their mind on the road.

Watch for icy areas on pathways and sidewalks

With wintery weather returning, the Town will be clearing and sanding pathways as resources permit. Freeze/thaw conditions may mean icy areas and standing water on pathways and sidewalks. Please use caution and consider using traction cleats, hiking poles or walking sticks.

Stay safe, keep off the ice

Storm ponds are never safe to venture out on - it’s not worth the risk and there is a real danger of falling through the ice. Runoff, road salts, continually moving water and changing weather conditions make ice thinner and weaker. Instead, check out one of the outdoor skating rinks around town.
