The District of Squamish is seeking elector approval to finance portions of the following projects through an Alternative Approval Process (AAP):

  • Whittaker Slough Pump Station
  • Xwu'nekw Park Sea Dike
  • Loggers East Drainage Diversion Pipe
  • Cemetery Expansion
  • Mamquam Bridge Resurfacing

Long-term borrowing is a useful tool for municipalities that spreads the cost of large projects over the life of the project and allows today’s taxpayers – as well as future taxpayers – to pay for it.

  • If you are NOT OPPOSED to these bylaws, you do not need to submit any forms.
  • If you are OPPOSED to one or more of these bylaws, please complete the related Elector Response Form and submit it to the District no later than 4:30 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2024.

NEW LONG TERM CARE HOMES

New long-term care home is coming to Squamish!

Health Minister Adrian Dix announced a $286 million investment from the provincial government to build a new long-term care facility with 152 beds, which will replace the 90 at Hilltop House and Hospice, resulting in an increase of 62 new beds for Squamish.

The District of Squamish is creating an age-friendly community plan!

To help create our plan, we are reaching out to community members of all ages - especially seniors who are comfortable sharing their experiences.

You can share your opinions through a short survey, in person through our comment boxes at The 55 Activity Centre and Westwinds, or by contacting our Equity and Inclusion Coordinator Keely Kidner to learn more and share: kkidner@squamish.ca

FIRE HYDRANT BYLAW

A friendly reminder to maintain a distance of 5 metres or more from fire hydrants!

This bylaw ensures clear sightlines for fire apparatus when approaching and allows the equipment to move forward once hooked up to the hydrant. It also ensures that the supply hose can be dragged without getting caught under vehicles. Depending on the fire’s location, additional appliances, such as a relay valve or extra supply hoses, may be needed to boost water volume. All of this requires space.

We appreciate your cooperation in keeping the community safe!
