LTCI GOOD NEWS STORY SUBMISSIONS

The LTCI is starting to plan for our upcoming Annual LTCI Leadership Dinner this fall with excitement. Due to the obvious public health restrictions, we haven’t had the chance to come together as a large group since our 2019 Leadership Dinner—we are looking forward to meeting in person soon!

At our upcoming event, we’d love to highlight some success stories from our community over this challenging last year and a half. Do you have a success or a challenge you overcame that you’d like to share with the broader LTC community? Perhaps a heartwarming story of how your staff went above and beyond? We want to hear from you! Let us know:

  • what happened (big or small!)
  • who was involved
  • how it was received
  • any impact it had, and
  • If you’d be willing to have your story recorded or share at the event!

Everyone who submits a story by will be entered in a draw for Yonni’s doughnuts! Please submit it to victoriasouthisland.LTCI@divisionsbc.ca by the end of August.

Looking forward to hearing all of your wonderful achievements!

RECRUITMENT

Are you a physician interested in expanding your long-term care practice? Do you know a physician interested in expanding their long-term care practice? We want to hear from you! The LTCI has been working with physicians and long-term care homes to find replacements for physicians retiring or reducing their panel sizes. If you know of any interested family physicians, please get in touch victoriasouthisland.LTCI@divisionsbc.ca

MENTORING

In response to feedback received at the system coordination and sustainability events held last fall, the LTCI has been developing and trialing a physician mentoring program. The program supports both new mentee physicians (medical Family Medicine Residents, and community physicians with no LTC experience) to learn about LTC and provide remuneration for their time, as well as later-career and retiring mentor physicians, who are remunerated for their mentoring time, and for any care transfers of LTC residents to the mentee.

The purpose of the Vic-SI LTCI’s Mentoring Program and Advanced Long-term Care Training is to support Family Physicians in enhancing their clinical experience and skills in order to begin, maintain, or reintroduce caring for frail elderly patients living in long-term care to their practice. Participant learning is supported by Family Physician mentors experienced in caring for the elderly in LTC settings.

Are you interested in learning more about our mentoring program as a mentor or mentee? Get in touch victoriasouthisland.LTCI@divisionsbc.ca
