Town Receives Provincial Funding for Ice Storm Recovery

The Town of The Blue Mountains is receiving up to $48,000 in provincial funding to support recovery efforts following the severe ice storm that impacted the region on March 28, 2025.

On March 18, Brian Saunderson, Member of Provincial Parliament for Simcoe-Grey, announced the funding as part of the Province of Ontario's $90 million Municipal Ice Storm Assistance program. The funding will help offset municipal costs related to the emergency response and cleanup efforts resulting from the storm.

Update on Value Engineering Review

Staff Report CFS.26.022 will be presented at a Special Meeting of Council on Thursday, April 2. The report, titled "Value Engineering Exercise Review - Mill Street Pumping Station" presents the findings of the Value Engineering Exercise approved through Staff Report CFS.26.009 and outlines a recommended path forward for the Mill Street Sewage Pumping Station component of the Housing Enabling Water Systems (HEWS) project.

The Value Engineering Exercise was undertaken to ensure that the current design is optimized for cost, performance, constructability and long-term operational efficiency prior to tender.

Recommendations include:

  • Revisiting peak flow assumptions to consider a phased implementation approach to align certain infrastructure upgrades with actual growth;
  • Maintaining the integrity of the current design while identifying targeted opportunities to reduce or defer components where appropriate; and
  • Undertaking a focused evaluation of the Caisson Submersible Pumping station option to determine its feasibility, risks, and potential value relative to the current design.

The HEWS project represents a significant investment in wastewater infrastructure to support growth and enable housing within the Town, with the project supporting approximately 13,724 additional housing units.

The report also contains additional information regarding the Bay Street Linear Works and Craigleith Sewage Lift Station projects that were bundled into the HEWS application and also experienced cost overruns as additional scope requirements, regulatory considerations and market factors were identified.

The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday in the Town Hall Council Chambers and will also be livestreamed online.

Spring Reminder for Pet Owners

Spring weather brings more opportunities to spend time outdoors with furry friends.

When out in the community, pet owners are reminded to pick up and properly dispose of pet waste and keep dogs on a leash when outside of designated leash-free dog parks. These simple habits help keep shared spaces clean, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.

Thank you for helping keep the community welcoming for all.

2026 Resident Parking Permits

Residents are reminded to register for a 2026 Resident Parking Permit, which provides free parking at all municipally owned paid lots, including beaches, parks and trails.

As part of this year’s process, residents must create a household account through the online registration system. This new, one-time setup allows multiple vehicles within the same household to be managed under a single account and provides the option to issue temporary permits for visiting guests.

Registration can be completed online through the Town’s Parking Permit Portal, with in-person support available at Town Hall. Permits must be renewed annually, and proof of residency and vehicle ownership is required.
