Kimberley Avenue Corridor Improvements — Project Update No. 3 – August 27, 2026

A full closure of Gerry Sorensen Way at Kimberley Avenue is now in effect. A signed detour is in place via Norton Avenue for access to the ski hill and resort area. Access to the detour is located between Stoke Market and Fas Gas.

The speed limit on Norton Avenue is 40 km/h. Please continue to exercise caution and reduce your speed when approaching the Swan Avenue and Diamond Street intersection.

The Kimberley Underground Mining Railway remains open for business; however, all vehicle access is now via the Norton Avenue detour. Pedestrians may continue to reach the railway by following the frontage of Gym 67 and proceeding west along Gerry Sorensen Way, while remaining outside the construction area.

Ross Street residents can continue to access their homes from Ross Street. Ross A Street residents can access their properties through the laneway off Gerry Sorensen Way.

Construction Progress

The contractor has made substantial progress on the underground utility upgrades. Pressure testing of the new watermain is now underway, while sanitary and storm sewer construction continues and remains ahead of schedule. Check out the photo below for a look at construction progress.

Upcoming Water Outage

An outage lasting up to eight hours will likely be required sometime next week to complete the watermain tie-ins. The outage is expected to affect:

  • Both sides of the west end of the Platzl, from Stonefire to the Library;
  • Gym 67; and
  • Residences and businesses on the 00 and 100 blocks of Spokane Street.

Specific notices will be delivered to affected properties once the outage has been scheduled.

Please remember that this remains an active construction area. Obey all posted signage and fencing, and use caution when travelling near the work zone.

Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation.
