Federal

Quick Summary of Federal Developments:

  • Health Canada has issued a label change on the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to provide information “on very rare reports of blood clots associated with low levels of blood platelets” and additional guidance for healthcare professionals and vaccine recipients on the potential symptoms to monitor.
  • The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommends not using the AstraZeneca vaccine for people under the age of 55 at this time while the safety signal of Vaccine-Induced Prothrombotic Immune Thrombocytopenia (VIPIT) following vaccination with this vaccine is being investigated. Rare cases of blood clots have been reported in Europe primarily in women under 55 and some cases in men 4 to 16 days after use.
  • Health Canada now requires AstraZeneca and Verity Pharmaceuticals/Serum Institute of India to conduct a detailed assessment of the benefits and risks of the vaccine by age and sex in the Canadian context as part of the authorization of the vaccine for use. Health Canada’s guidance continues to provide healthcare practitioners with information on the signs and symptoms to monitor following vaccination.
  • Finance Minister Freeland announced an additional $7.2B in pandemic support for health care, COVID-19 vaccination programs and municipalities.
  • The Special Advisory Committee on the Epidemic of Opioid Overdoses released the latest national data on the overdose crisis that covers the period of January 1, 2016 to September 30, 2020.

  • Canada has now received more than six million doses of COVID-19 vaccine and is scheduled to receive another six million doses over the next 3 weeks.
  • Moderna is increasing the frequency of its deliveries from every third week to every second week. Canada is now expected to receive 855,000 doses the week of April 5 and 1.2 million doses the week of April 19. However, the second delivery will be delayed for a few days due to temporary circumstances relating to the quality assurance process.
  • 11% of Canadians have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to date.

Local

Section 22 Class Order Issued in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties

    • Enhanced restrictions intend to curb transmission in our region, avoid overwhelming emergency and health services, and avoid extreme restrictions locally.
    • While we recognize it is difficult for impacted businesses to limit their clientele to local residents, these efforts will help avoid the spread of VOC present in other regions, and help you keep operating as normally as possible.
    • If we are unable to keep rates under control in our region, we will likely be moved into more extreme restrictions by the province.
    • Private social gatherings must not exceed five people (exception – if more than 5 people live in one household)
      • Individuals who live alone may choose to join one, exclusive household to gather with. To protect one another, maintain 2m of distance and wear a mask.
      • Businesses may continue to facilitate organized gatherings that exceed more than 5 people, as long as all public health precautions are in place.
