To make your summer registration stress-free:

๐Ÿ‘€ Pay close attention to the section details listed in Workday, including the course start and end dates.

โ€ผ๏ธ If youโ€™re taking a pre-req in Summer Term 1 and plan to take the next course in Summer Term 2, you will be unable to register yourself in the Term 2 course. For assistance with registration, contact the department offering the Term 2 course.

March 6: Celebrate Freedom to Read Week with a community read-in ๐Ÿ“–

In recognition of Freedom to Read Week, UBCO Library and the Equity and Inclusion Office are holding a community read-in, where excerpts of books that have been challenged in many libraries and schools will be read aloud. This year weโ€™ve selected Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi and Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe.

Snacks will be provided and copies of the books will be given away! No registration is necessary.

March 11: Ramadan celebration at Picnic

The Muslim Students Association and Equity Inclusion Office are joining to host Community Iftar in Picnic. Enjoy a warm and welcoming atmosphere with delicious food while making meaningful connections and participating in crafts and henna. Break your fast at sunset or join us for dinner โ€“ everyone is welcome!

March 12: Film screening and Q&A with filmmakers ๐ŸŽฅ

In community archives across BC, local knowledge keepers are hand-fashioning a more inclusive history. UBCO Library and ReMedia invite you to a screening of Unarchived at the UBCO Theatre. Beverages and snacks will be provided, and no registration is necessary.

Volunteer at Recess Revival โšฝ๏ธ

The Recess Revival team is looking for volunteers on March 25 in the Courtyard. You can support with food prep or food service, act as a Community Connector, and more. You can sign up for 30-minute shifts between 7 am and 3 pm.

Find connection and community ๐Ÿซ‚

(Re)Claim & Connect is a small group for Asian Canadians focused on storytelling and connection, facilitated by two UBCO counsellors. The goal of the group is to foster belonging and combat anti-Asian racism through intentional and guided storytelling. The group provides a safe space and structure to share your story in a manner that feels validated and supported by others with shared experiences.  

The intro begins on Friday, March 7.

Harm reduction resources

March 6 is Black Balloon Day

Black Balloon Day is a day to bring awareness to deaths from substance user harms and the unregulated toxic drug supply across North America." The Campus Wellness & Education team will have a memorial table set up in Picnic from March 4 to 7 to honour the memory of those we have lost to overdose.

Party hard, party safe

Stop by the first floor of the UNC on March 12 from 1 to 3 pm to pick up a Safe Party Kit from the SUO! Kits will include electrolytes, ear plugs, a snack, and glow sticks! You can also learn about safer partying practices with HaRT. Naloxone training and fentanyl testing strips will be available.
