October 31, 2025

The District of Squamish and CUPE Local 2269 have ratified the tentative Collective Agreement that bargaining teams on both sides agreed to on Tuesday. This effectively ended the labour dispute and the associated Union job action and District lockout. The District welcomed its unionized employees back to work on Thursday, October 30.

A Brief Update from Brennan Park Recreation Centre

The Recreation and Facilities teams are working to reopen and welcome the community back to the aquatic centre and ice arena as quickly as possible. Work to refill the pool began yesterday, and steps to rebuild the ice are underway with technical work to re-instate the ammonia plant taking place over the weekend.

In the meantime, programs are being regularly re-instated at Brennan Park, The 55, and Westwinds, and we are so happy to welcome everyone back.

We anticipate being able to provide reopening timelines early next week, as well as an update on the next season of recreation programming. We recognize the community frustration that has resulted from another pause in recreation services, and we are working hard to return to normal. Thank you for your patience for a little while longer.
