Six Ways to Nurture Solid Relationships in the Workplace

Workplace relationships can positively or negatively affect your job satisfaction as well as your ability to grow in a role and organization.

When you build positive relationships at work, you feel more comfortable with your interactions and less threatened by others’ progress. You feel a closer bond to the people you’re working with, and you grow your influence with the organizational boundaries.

1. Communicate respectfully, clearly & effectively.

2. Change your attitude about mistakes.

3. Learn to take on responsibilities & help others.

4. Try to maintain a positive attitude.

5. Resolve conflicts amicably.

6. Try to know each other better.

Get to Know You Day: Collaboration in Calgary's Innovation Ecosystem

Okotoks Economic Development staff were excited to take part in Calgary’s Innovation Ecosystem on Wednesday January 18, 2023 at Platform Calgary.

The goal of the event was to bring together key stakeholders and to foster collaboration in our regional tech and innovation ecosystem. It was an opportunity for regional stakeholders to share who they are, who they serve, and what they do.

Over 100 participants attended and there were many takeaways from the day, including the opportunity to continue the conversations and collaborations that we started!

Collaboration is a strategic goal. The Town of Okotoks strategy for 2022-2025, convening the service providers and government agencies in our region, will strengthen our collective impact.

The Town of Okotoks continues to emphasize the value of regional collaborations in its efforts to increase economic diversity. The Town is working to make sure that there are active and healthy regional collaborations to support what businesses need to innovate from start to finish. It is important to remain committed to creating an environment where local businesses can innovate and grow.

 New False Fire Alarm Bylaw

New False Fire Alarm Fees

A new fee structure to reduce repeated false fire alarms, as part of the Town of Okotoks’ Fees, Rates and Charges Bylaw, took effect on January 1, 2023. The fees are in place to prevent ongoing false alarms from the same business and to help business owners and alarm companies stay accountable. This step will ensure that Okotoks Fire & Rescue are not called unnecessarily and to help maintain appropriate service levels for the entire community.

If your fire alarm system is being serviced, have your technician contact the non-emergency dispatch number at 403-933-4535 to advise of possible false alarms prior to any maintenance.

If more information is required, please contact Okotoks Fire Services at 403-938-4066. Thank you for your cooperation.

Share Your Thoughts on Deer in Okotoks

With deer being a part of the biodiversity landscape in Okotoks, the Town and residents need to work together to adopt strategies that discourage deer from eating and inhabiting yards in our community.

To make decisions on future deer deterrent strategies, we need your feedback on deer education & awareness, your experience with deer, strategies you currently use and deer deterrent fencing options. Take the survey from February 6-19 by clicking the link below:

Small Business Energy Saving Tip

There a many ways to help small businesses save energy; here is the fifth tip in a series of 12!

Turn off lights when not in use. It might seem like a no-brainer, but in a typical office, lights stay on in areas like break rooms, bathrooms, or conference rooms, even when those spaces aren’t being used. Sensor lights can help to keep the lights on when needed, but off when they’re not.
