Coquitlam Approves Climate Action Plan
New Plan to Reduce the City’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Coquitlam’s newly adopted Climate Action Plan contains actions that reflect both municipal climate best practices and Coquitlam’s local priorities and values. These efforts aim to reduce emissions while delivering community benefits, including cleaner air, healthier homes, more sustainable transportation, good green jobs, and thriving parks and natural spaces.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
