DISTRICT OF SQUAMISH HOLIDAY HOURS | COMMUNITY FEEDBACK INVITED ON LAND USE SCENARIOS IN GARIBALDI ESTATES NEIGHBOURHOOD PLANNING PROCESS | With anticipated population growth in B.C. of 1.38 million by 2041, Squamish will need to plan how it will absorb its share of that growth, in particular, due to its proximity to the BC Lower Mainland. BC Stats projects Squamish’s growth rate to be an average of 1.7% annually through 2043. At that rate, the Squamish population would reach at least 35,000 in 20 years. “Change over 20 years is inevitable, and this neighbourhood planning process is the opportunity for residents to help shape that change in Garibaldi Estates and imagine the future of the neighbourhood together,” says District of Squamish Mayor Armand Hurford. Learn more | | LATEST ADDITION TO THE BUILDERS' CORNER | Planning a demolition? Waste diversion is a requirement! Since 2021, all demolition activity within the District of Squamish has been governed under The District of Squamish Demolition Waste Diversion Bylaw. Construction and demolition waste represent a major amount of divertible material that contributes to the Squamish landfill filling up rapidly. Diverting demolition materials, especially wood, will help everyone in the community save money, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and extend the landfill’s lifespan. Under this bylaw, a refundable fee of $20 per square metre is paid along with the Demolition Permit Application. When 80% or more of the waste is diverted by volume, the fee is refunded. Material can be sold or donated for reuse for double the diversion credit.
