Giving Workers a Voice in Their Recovery

Strong return-to-work outcomes are built on collaboration, open dialogue, and empowering workers to take the lead in their own recovery. At WCB, Return-to-Work Specialists like Brandon Gallant are helping make that vision a reality by making sure workers have a seat at the table.

Brandon recently supported a worker who was eager to return to work but faced uncertainty from their doctor. Instead of keeping the conversation one-on-one, Brandon brought everyone together - the worker, doctor, and employer - to support the return-to-work plan.

“Ultimately, it gave me an opportunity to have the worker be part of that conversation and let the doctor see that the worker had some confidence in what they could do,” Brandon says. By inviting the worker’s voice into the discussion, the team developed a practical, return-to-work plan, and the worker returned fully within four weeks.

As of the end of June, three quarters of Nova Scotians injured on the job returned to work within 90 days, in part due to the dedication of employers in the return-to-work journey and new approaches by our team members, like Brandon.
