Hearing Loops Installed

The District of Squamish has installed a number of hearing loops across multiple facilities including Municipal Hall, Brennan Park Recreation Centre, The 55 Activity Centre and the Squamish Public Library.

A hearing loop is a device that allows people who use hearing aids and cochlear implants to hear sound directly into their hearing device. It also improves sound clarity by muting background noise.

Adaptive Mountain-Biking

A new adaptive mountain biking trail is now open at Alice Lake Provincial Park, making outdoor recreation more accessible in Squamish. The South Coaster Adaptive Trail was built through a $180,000 investment by the Province and SORCA, and is designed for riders with diverse mobility needs.

The trail connects with nearby routes like Miki’s Magic and Cardrona, and links to the Bob McIntosh Memorial Trail. This project reflects ongoing efforts to improve trail access and park infrastructure across the region.

Credit Card Surcharge Fees

The District of Squamish can now accept in-person and online credit card payments of up to $25,000 for some Building, Planning, Engineering, Cemetery and Public Works permits and applications. A 2.4% surcharge will be applied to these charges in order to cover the fees incurred from credit card companies.

This new service helps streamline the payment process to provide customers with greater flexibility and convenience, aligning with the District’s commitment to deliver efficient and effective municipal services for residents and businesses.

Curbside Battery Collection

Curbside battery collection is happening the week of April 21 - 25!

Take advantage of this pilot program to recycle your batteries responsibly and help keep harmful chemicals out of the landfill.

To prepare your batteries for collection, follow these simple steps:

  • Place acceptable batteries into clear, sealable plastic bags.
  • On your regular collection day, place the sealed battery bags on top of your recycling tote.

Battery collection will take place on your regular garbage and organics collection day that week.

Landfill Closure

The landfill will be closed on April 29 for scale re-calibration.

This routine maintenance ensures the weigh scale provides accurate readings and meets regulatory standards.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Mount Garibaldi Cemetery Expansion Project

The Mount Garibaldi Cemetery expansion is underway with forest and vegetation clearing now complete. Consultants are actively completing design milestones in preparation for construction, which is expected to take place from July to December 2025.

The adjacent trail to the east, affected by the land clearing, has resulted in SORCA being retained to complete a 100-metre re-route. This work will begin on April 22 with help from students at Don Ross Secondary. We expect the re-route to be open by the end of May 2025.
