Stage 3 Watering Restrictions are in effect

Stage 3 restrictions continue with even and odd day watering just like in Stage 2, and asks residents to voluntarily reduce water use where possible to help avoid a future watering ban.

Here are some ways residents can take action in Stage 3:

  • Temporarily stop lawn watering. Lawns naturally go dormant (golden) in the summer months and return to green with fall rains.  If you can't  stop watering, you can also reduce lawn watering by decreasing run times.

  • Avoid washing vehicles or boats unnecessarily, unless for safety reasons (windows and headlights).

  • Sweep outdoor areas such as driveways or decks with a broom rather than using a hose or power washing.

Shredded paper recycling process

Say goodbye to plastic bags for your shredded paper and hello to paper bags or cardboard boxes for all of your shredded paper needs! Recycle BC has updated its request for shredded paper. You can even recycle a cereal or cracker box for the job.

From now on, please set shredded paper out for collection in a paper bag or small box and place it in your recycling (blue) cart. Why put shredded paper in a container? Itโ€™s to keep it contained so it doesnโ€™t fly all over the place.

For more information, download the FREE Nanaimo Recycles App to learn what goes where.

Albert/Fourth Street upgrades continue; pedestrian and cyclist access can remains open through the road closure

The Albert/Fourth Complete Street and Utility Upgrades project is moving ahead, and although the road is closed to vehicle traffic, it remains open to pedestrians and cyclists.

During most construction projects, when a road is closed to vehicle traffic, it is still accessible for pedestrians and cyclists - just one more reason to consider an alternative way to get around!

Albert Street is expected to remain closed until mid-September between Pine and Kennedy Streets so if this was your regular route by vehicle, please use an alternate route to avoid delays.
