Kawandi Quilt Workshop
with
Arita Rai

Saturday, February 10, 2024
10am to 2pm
Unitarian Church
Fireside Room
$45

A Kawandi is a utility quilt made by the African Diaspora/Siddi community of India. Join fellow VMQG member Arita Rai who will share her knowledge of these quilts and lead this hand quilting workshop.

 Kawandi quilt registration

Kawandis are created improvisationally with small scraps of fabric stitched from the outside toward the centre in such a way that you piece and quilt simultaneously. In this workshop you will make a mini quilt incorporating the design elements of a traditional Kawandi. Creating these hand stitched quilts can be relaxing and meditative, so pack up your hand sewing tools, your favourite scraps, and join Arita over a few hours for a creative and relaxing experience.
