December 18, 2025

We’re wishing everyone a happy holiday season as the Coquitlam Current wraps up for 2025. Remember that City-run facilities and services will see some temporary schedule changes – including rec centre hours and waste collection dates

Thank you for subscribing to the Coquitlam Current this year. After this edition, the newsletter will take a holiday hiatus. You’ll see the first issue of the new year in your inbox on January 15.

Balancing Today to Strengthen Tomorrow
Coquitlam Approves 2026 Budget

The City’s approved 2026 budget takes a balanced, responsible approach — one that recognizes today’s affordability and inflationary challenges while ensuring the City keeps delivering the services and amenities the community relies on. For 2026, the property tax increase for an average household is $93 a year (3.37%). With utilities included, the total will be $137 a year (about $2.67/week).

Coquitlam is committed to managing finances responsibly. The City has taken various measures to contain costs, such as optimizing interest income, reducing annual tax-funded capital allocations, and accelerating debt retirement to re-direct savings.

Recycle your Tree
Community Tree-Chipping Events

Bring your natural Christmas tree (free of stands, decorations, tinsel, and flocking) to one of three tree-chipping events on January 3 or 4. Recycling your tree helps us reduce waste, support local community groups, and turn trees into mulch for reuse.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
