COMING UP AT COUNCIL

DISTRICT AIMS TO CREATE A BARRIER-FREE SQUAMISH

The District of Squamish is creating an Accessibility Plan to identify and work towards removing accessibility barriers related to District infrastructure, programs, services and information. The District is engaging residents to find out what accessibility barriers they, or someone they care for, encounter when accessing District facilities, infrastructure, services or information.

The community is invited to identify accessibility challenges through the following options

  • Register for a focus group to share your accessibility experiences;
  • Complete the survey;
  • Show us where accessibility barriers exist in physical spaces by marking a map. Maps will be available at the Library and Brennan Park Recreation Centre, as well as online;
  • Complete a comment card available at the Library and Brennan Park Recreation Centre.

Change over 20 years is inevitable and creating a neighbourhood plan is the opportunity for residents to shape the future of the neighbourhood together. Complete the survey before March 28 to let us know what you think about:

  • Possible land use scenarios for the Garibaldi Estates; and
  • Emerging ideas to consider in the Garibaldi Estates.

ZERO WASTE TIP OF THE WEEK

Did you know? Almost 30 % of what ends up in the Squamish landfill from the residential garbage collection could have gone into the Organics bin. Organic matter slowly breaks down in the landfill releasing harmful methane while also taking up valuable limited space.

Make sure to put food scraps, tea bags, coffee grounds, and bones into your organic bin so that those materials can be composted and turned into nutrient-rich soil!

Garibaldi Way and Tantalus Road intersection improvements update

  • Please expect vehicle, cyclist and pedestrian impacts while construction is underway.

Regular construction noise should be expected between the working hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Work is scheduled to take approximately 10 weeks to complete.
