Brown Bag Session:
Collaborative Co-creation of Knowledge

December 5, 2023, 12:30-1:20pm (UBCV and Online)

Join us to hear from Solutions Scholar Miah Godek where she will share her research project “Collaborative co-creation of knowledge to support Indigenous cultural burning for climate resilience in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia”. Following Miah’s presentation, she and her supervisor Dr. Danielle Ignace (Forestry) will lead a discussion around the topics that emerge within the question and answer period. Coffee and cookies for in-person participants - please bring your own mug!

Innovation Partnerships

Learn about supports available for researchers through the UBC Office of the VP Research and Innovation (VPRI) including updates on entrepreneurship, commercialization and knowledge exchange.

Innovations in Energy Transition:
The Question of Storage

Alternatives to fossil fuels are needed and innovations in wind, solar and other renewable energies are progressing. However, the question of storage remains a challenge. Unpacking COP28 with UBC Researchers

More than 130 people gathered in-person and online to unpack what to expect from COP28. COP, or the Conference of the Parties, is the annual summit for the United Nations (UN) Framework Convention on Climate Change, which brings together nearly every country on earth for intergovernmental negotiations. Policy Dialogues in November

The Climate Collective explored the connection between policy, research and action at a number of events throughout the month. Beginning with a graduate student discussion around what policy means in connection to an individual’s climate research, followed by an informal discussion on how researchers can connect with policy in their own areas of research, researchers from several disciplines gathered in dialogue.  Do you have a suggestion for a future event? Policy and its connection to research was identified as a major topic of interest by participants at the Climate Collective launch event in September.  The UBC Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions hosts several policy related workshops and hosts consulting hours for members of the UBC community.

PICS Climate Action Events Program Deadline December 4, 2023

The PICS Climate Action Events Program offers up to $5,000 for events that share knowledge and ways of knowing, build skills and foster meaningful conversation to advance climate action within BC.

Public Humanities Research Seed Grants Deadline December 18, 2023

The Public Humanities Research Seed Grant program aims to provide support for new creative, collaborative, and experimental public humanities projects, imagined broadly. The Seed Grants provide small funds to support early-stage research activities that will maintain or strengthen research capacity and research excellence and, importantly, advance knowledge in the humanities.

Environment and Climate Change Canada's Nature Smart Climate Solutions Fund

The Learning and Knowledge Hubs for Natural Climate Solutions’ intake is for research organizations aiming to support Western and Indigenous research initiatives to increase foundational knowledge and capacity to implement natural climate solutions in Canada.

Funding for Research on Climate Change Mitigation, Adaptation and Resilience in Business and Society  Deadline January 22, 2024

The Centre for Climate and Business Solutions is excited to call for proposals for research focused on spurring climate change mitigation, resilience, and adaptation within business and society. This initiative is driven by the pressing need for immediate action due to the profound effects of climate change and focuses on encouraging and supporting UBC Sauder research on climate-related topics. Chapman Innovation Grants, Center for Community Engaged Learning
Deadline February 4, 2023

The Chapman and Innovation Grants (C&I) offer UBC students the opportunity to create and carry out a meaningful project in partnership with a BC-based community partner. The C&I grants are designed to help students work with a community organization to test a new idea and to take an initiative in tackling a social and/or environmental issue in their local community.

The Climate Solutions Research Collective is a new UBC pan-university initiative designed to
build connections across UBC climate researchers, groups and initiatives, and to encourage new collaborative research on climate change solutions. Through seminars, workshops, and a
graduate student Solutions Scholars program, it aims to foster engagement across departments
and faculties, and to support graduate students and faculty in applying their research and
expertise to climate change mitigation, adaptation, and/or education.
