Meet our New Engagement Leader, Cassy Mitchell!

Please join us in welcoming the newest team member of the BC Patient Safety & Quality Council: Cassy Mitchell!

Cassy has previously been involved with PVN as a patient partner and was on the Oversight & Advisory Committee for over a year. Now she'll be supporting PVN as she works with patient and health care partners in Northern BC.

Introducing Cassy Mitchel, PVN Engagement Leader!

Cassy is excited to bring her years of experience in nursing and home care to this role. She says that "when patient partners and health care partners collaborate, magic can happen." We can't wait to see what kind of magic will be created as she begins working with PVN in her new capacity!

Quality Café Webinar Recording:
Exploring
Patient Activation, Engagement and Experience

On October 17, 2018, the BC Patient Safety & Quality Council hosted a Quality Café learning session on three distinct but often overlapping concepts: patient engagement, patient activation and patient experience. The slides and the webinar recording are both now available online!

Watch the latest Quality Cafe webinar on patient engagement!

During the webinar, Cathy Almost, one of the Council's Northern Engagement Leaders, and Claire Snyman, a PVN Patient Partner, described how each of these terms is a vital part of ensuring BC has a person- and family-centred health care system and how these concepts interact with each other.

Canadian Patient Safety Week is next week!

Next Week is Patient Safety Week!

Canadian Patient Safety Week is happening from October 29 - November 2! This national, annual campaign promotes improvement in patient safety and quality; this year's theme is Not All Meds Get Along. The campaign focuses on medication safety and reducing medication errors for patients across the country. The goal of Patient Safety Week is to reduce these errors by 50 percent in the next five years!

The campaign includes many ways for both patients and health care providers to take part, including a medication safety webinar, a comic challenge, a new season of the Patient podcast series and more!

Find out how to get involved.

the 2019 National Health Leadership Conference!

The Canadian Patient Safety Institute is now accepting nominations for their Excellence in Patient Engagement for Patient Safety competition!

Teams of one patient partner and one health care professional are encouraged to submit an application about an initiative that is having an impact on patient safety outcomes.

The two winning teams will be selected to present about their project at the next National Health Leadership Conference in Toronto in June 2019! All travel expenses and full registration for the conference will be covered.

Submit your nomination by October 31.

Another Chance to Submit your Photo!

We were thrilled to see that PVN patient partners are so excited about the ID badges we announced in our last newsletter! The photos came pouring in and we got to see the smiling faces of so many of our members around the province.

If you missed the link we shared, don't despair! We are still accepting photos.

As a reminder, photos that resemble passport photos (light background, facing forward, head and shoulders in photo, just yourself) work best!

Submit your photo.

Submit your photo for your very own PVN ID badge!
