Coquitlam Remembers
Honouring Veterans in Meaningful Ways

In recognition of the achievements and sacrifices of those who have served our nation in times of war and military conflict, Coquitlam residents are encouraged to show their respect for veterans in a variety of ways this year:

  • Poppy Painting and Messages of Remembrance along Veteran’s Way: Stop by Blue Mountain Park (975 King Albert Avenue) to paint a large poppy on the grass as part of a temporary display. Various times are available from Friday, November 1 until Sunday, November 10.
  • Poppy Painting at Spirit Square: Join us at Spirit Square on Burlington Drive, across the street from Coquitlam City Hall, on Thursday, November 7 from 1 – 4:30 p.m. and add a painted poppy to the temporary outdoor display.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
