Capsule Aviation Safety: The turn to final

The training session on November 4 focused on the most critical phase of a flight, namely approach and landing. We talked, among other things, about the turn from the base to the final which is the major cause of accidents in this phase of the flight. Here is a short video, courtesy of Smart Pilot , which illustrates the dangers of this final phase.

Frequency 126.7 Mhz - an update

For several months now, many of you have expressed your concerns to us about traffic on the 126.7 MHz frequency.

Too crowded, this leads to situations where aviation safety is compromised: inability to respond to traffic that is in conflict, unreadable messages because more than one communication at the same time, hearing exasperation / fatigue which leads several pilots to turn off the volume altogether .

Please note that your concerns have been heard and that Aviateurs Québec has communicated them to Transport Canada who are well aware of the problem and who are trying to find a solution with Nav Canada.

Aviateurs Québec will follow up and we hope to come back to you soon with good news from Transport Canada in order to increase the fluidity of communications and aviation safety!

Annual General Meeting, October 31, 2020

On October 31, Aviateurs.Québec held its annual general meeting via Zoom videoconference.

Airmedic settles on the Côte-Nord, in La Romaine

The airline Airmedic specializing in medical services has invested $ 10 million in La Romaine in the construction of a hangar, the purchase of specialized equipment and a Pilatus aircraft which is based on site.

This base, the seventh for Airmedic in Quebec, was opened in the spring following a partnership with the Innu community of Unamen Shipu. The objective is to intervene more quickly during medical evacuations and emergencies in this region which is not connected by road.

A first, not the last.

Aviateurs.Québec presented on November 4, via Zoom videoconference, a training session.

75 members of Aviateurs.Québec were thus able to update themselves in accordance with CAR 401.05. The exchanges were most productive and this virtual meeting thus allowed participants to exchange their experience and learn about those of others. Our instructor Sophie Dufresne, class 1, was able to carry out this training session.

The comments received are very positive and everyone appreciated this mode of communication. Following the success of this presentation, we plan to plan another one before Christmas. Watch our calendar on our site for an announcement.

Thank you to the 75 participants and to Sophie Dufresne.

VFR flight in a personal simulator? Yes it's possible !

The arrival of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is quite a revolution for the followers of the flight simulation. Introduced in August 2020 by Microsoft in the midst of a pandemic, the simulation software is currently making its mark with its unprecedented visual realism. The simulation software has already sold several hundred thousand copies. We owe this new version of Flight Simulator to Asebo studios in Bordeaux, France. This is the same studio that developed the movie Ratatouille in 2007 for Disney's.

The graphics are based on aerial views from Microsoft's Bing Maps service, which are then converted to 3D using photogrammetry and artificial intelligence. We have thus reproduced the entire globe with a breathtaking level of detail.

Visual rendering now makes it possible to perform VFR flights with a high degree of realism. The four photos on the banner at the top are images captured from MSFS 2020. You can easily recognize the cities of Ottawa, Quebec, Montreal and Toronto.

The software is on the other hand demanding with regard to the computer and especially its graphics card. For 4K quality graphics, we're certainly talking about a graphics card like the NVIDEA GE Force RTX3080 which sells for +/- $ 1,000. But, no need to go that far. It is reported that configurations with a CPU such as the I7-6700 @ 3.4GHz and an NVIDIA GTX 1060, 6GB graphics card do the job perfectly for resolutions of around 1920 x 1080 and a level of graphics quality set to HIGH-END, which is the 2nd in quality just behind the ULTRA level. This level of quality is sufficient to perform VFR flights. This short video shows a Circuit Ville-Marie flight in Montreal .  It was performed with a configuration using an I7-6700 CPU, a GTX 1060 graphics card and a monitor having a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Not bad!

If you are interested in flight simulation, Aviators.Québec members have access to a Flight simulation section .

It is also interesting to follow groups like Flight Simulator Quebec on Facebook. And there's also Google ...
