THOR FROSLEV REMEMBERED

https://squamish.ca/yourgovernment/news/thor-froslev/

The District of Squamish is saddened to learn of the passing of Thor Froslev. Thor came to Squamish in 1972 with a vision to bring arts and culture into a small B.C. logging town. This vision and a great amount of energy and passion became the legacies now known as the Brackendale Art Gallery (BAG) and Brackendale Eagle Festival.

Thor was one in a million. He loved people, music and art. He made everybody feel at home at the BAG since he first opened its doors in 1973, hosting concerts, events, exhibitions and shows. He served as a member of District of Squamish Council in 1976 and 1977.

NEW PUBLIC ART INSTALLATION AT BRENNAN PARK RECREATION CENTRE

A new public art piece has been installed at Brennan Park Recreation Centre. A collaborative effort between Xwalacktun and Glenne Campbell, the piece is a re-conception of the National Flag of Canada and showcases acknowledgement and collaboration of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) and Canadian values. The graphics portray orange t-shirts and maple leaf inscribed with West Coast First Nations symbology. The installation aims to create more opportunities for people to recognize that we all must play a role in Truth and Reconciliation. Squamish Arts awarded $12,000 in funding to Xwalacktun and Glenne Campbell from the 2022 Public Art Grants for the project.
