Multi-Use Rec Centre Feasibility Assessment Launched

In partnership with the Town of Collingwood, The Blue Mountains is excited to announce the launch of their Joint Multi-Use Recreation Feasibility Assessment (MURFA).

The Joint Assessment will assess the current and future recreational facility needs of residents from both communities and will also explore integrating library services into a multi-use model, as has proven effective in several municipalities across the province.

Robust engagement with residents, community groups, local and provincial sports organizations, third-party recreation providers, and community space users is pivotal to gathering the most complete data possible. Subscribe to the MURFA project page to be notified about confirmed public engagement opportunities, and to stay informed of the project background, objectives, progress, and outcomes.

Door-To-Door Smoke Alarm Program

The Town of The Blue Mountains Fire Department is running their door-to-door smoke alarm program from June to September.

The purpose of this program is to ensure that all homes have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and to educate the public on the maintenance of these devices. Provincial law states that every home in Ontario must have a working smoke alarm on every storey and outside all sleeping areas as well as a carbon monoxide alarm. The Blue Mountains Fire Department would like to take this opportunity to assist you in gaining compliance with the Ontario Fire Code.

Here are some helpful tips to remember:

  • When purchasing smoke and CO alarms, always check for the appropriate marks to ensure they comply with Canadian standards.
  • Clean and test your smoke and CO alarms every month.
  • Replace your smoke and CO alarm batteries every six months, replace expired alarms (any alarm older than 10 years of age) and consider installing 10-year sealed battery alarms.

If you have any questions or concerns about your devices, contact fire prevention at fireprevention@thebluemountains.ca and an inspector will schedule a visit to your property.
