SHA CARES - Living our Values

Volunteers at the heart of compassionate care

Volunteers play a vital role in creating a welcoming environment across Saskatchewan facilities. From greeting visitors to supporting families, volunteers make a meaningful difference every day.

“It’s important that everyone who walks through these doors feels comfortable and knows they’re not alone. That’s why we’re here,” Michael Bassett, a volunteer at Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, said.

Volunteering is more than giving your time; it’s about offering care and connection. Whether you want to gain experience, meet people, or give back, there’s a place for you. Every act of kindness, big or small, matters.

If you’ve thought about volunteering, now is the time to start.

 Recognition and Appreciation

Volunteers in Langenburg Centennial Special Care home

What would we do without volunteers? Langenburg Centennial Special Care home wanted to improve the home like environment for our residents as well as mitigate the risks we see with dementia care. Our volunteers came in and painted all our resident room doors (residents chose the color and pattern) as well as our exits made to look like beautiful bookcases. This has been a two year project that has just been completed. We are thankful every day for the time our volunteers give to us.

Where did SHA volunteers serve in 2025?

Volunteers offer a steady presence and strengthen the health care experience when it matters the most. Across Saskatchewan they deliver Meals on Wheels, share joy as pet visitors, help people as wayfinders, offer connection as client companions, assist with recreation and fitness programs, lend a hand in gift shops, provide solace with healing arts and palliative care programs, support to mental health clients and so much more.

Administrative Professionals Day

Administrative professionals from a variety of teams at Saskatoon City Hospital. SHA administraive professionals support teams across Saskatchewan and are essential to keeping units, departments, and operations running smoothly.

April 22 marked Administrative Professionals Day across Canada and recognizes the contributions of administrative assistants, office managers, and support staff.

Thank you to all SHA administrative assistants, executive assistants, unit clerks, medical office assistants, staff schedulers and all other administrative professionals  across the province for everything you do each and everyday.

April 28 is National Day of Mourning

April 28 is National Day of Mourning, a day dedicated to honoring and remembering those who have lost their lives or been injured in workplace accidents. It is also a day to reaffirm our dedication to improving workplace health and safety and preventing future incidents.

SHA values - Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Equity, and Safety - define our principles. Safety encompasses physical, psychological, social, cultural, and environmental well-being, and we are committed to upholding it every day for everyone. We encourage everyone to observe a moment of silence at 11 a.m. on April 28 to reflect, remember, and recommit to creating a workplace culture where safety is a shared responsibility and core value.

 Staff Information

Response to Bicillin L-A shortage

In response to the ongoing national Bicillin L-A shortage, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health has procured a supply of Lentocilin S 1200 to help prevent disruptions to syphilis treatment. Provider support tools have been developed to assist health-care providers with reconstitution, administration and aftercare.

Please refer to the SHA intranet, Syphilis – Public Health and the Maternal/Children’s Health Clinical Resources- Syphilis tile to access new and updated resources.

Local pharmacy teams will notify each acute care site when Lentocilin S 1200 will be implemented and available for use at their location. Public Health Offices and SHA hospital pharmacies are asked to include documents or QR code with ancillary supplies, when shipping out Lentocilin S 1200.
