 Celebrating Economic Development Week

Okotoks Town Council has proclaimed May 11–17, 2025, as Economic Development Week, recognizing the essential role economic developers play in creating strong, resilient communities through business support, investment, and strategic planning.

Here in Okotoks, our team is focused on building a diverse, vibrant economy. We thank our partners—businesses, organizations, and community leaders—for working with us to shape a thriving future.

Supporting local businesses is one of the most effective ways to grow our economy—and that’s the focus of the BR+E program. Through interviews, roundtables and direct outreach, we work with business owners to understand their needs, address challenges and connect them with helpful resources and opportunities.

From navigating permits and workforce issues to providing grant information and marketing support, BR+E takes a hands-on, proactive approach to strengthening our business community.

"Eco-nomic" Tips: Protect Your Business from Spring Storms

With spring comes increased precipitation, storms, and the risk of flooding. Here’s how to stay prepared and protect your business:

Keep Water Out:

  • Ensure ground slopes away from building (7–10% for the first 1.5m) & landscaping doesn’t interfere with drainage
  • Install eavestroughs & downspouts to direct water away
  • Keep basements dry with sump pumps (with backup power) & backflow valves
  • Use green infrastructure (e.g. rain gardens) to absorb runoff

Guard Against Hail & High Winds:

  • Upgrade to impact-resistant windows, doors, cladding & roofing
  • Clear gutters & roof drains
  • Secure rooftop equipment & trim nearby branches
  • Anchor outdoor furniture & accessories
