SHORT-TERM RENTAL UPDATES

The Province is regulating short-term rentals (STR) in response to the housing crisis and shortage of attainable and affordable long-term rentals. The new Act applies to all STR operators in B.C.

What this means for Squamish:

  • All STR hosts must display a current District of Squamish business licence number on their listing.
  • If a listing does not have a current District of Squamish business licence, the hosting platform must remove the listing from their site at the request of the District.
  • Under the Community Charter, the Province has increased the maximum municipal ticketing fine that a local government may set from $1,000 to $3,000 per infraction, per day.
