ORGANIZATION OF WORK AND PROFESSIONAL ISSUES
Lunch conference and stories about your expertise

It's National Medical Laboratory Week, and the APTS is suggesting two activities for you:

  1. Over the next few days, APTS members who work in labs are invited to post stories on social media with the hashtag #myexpertisematters. We’d love to hear how your expertise makes a difference to the people who benefit from your services. For information
  2. This Friday, you're invited to a lunch conference called OPTILAB: The APTS in action for the future of our laboratories (in French). The webinar will look back at the origins of the OPTILAB reform and ten years of mobilization to try and stop the movement towards hypercentralized medical labs.

There will be two sessions, at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Once you’ve registered, you’ll be sent a link to join the webinar.

A major event focusing on labs

The future of public-system medical labs will be discussed on May 6 at a focus day organized by the APTS on the theme “Moving forward for the future of our labs.”

Representatives of physicians’ federations, CEGEPs, groups representing service users, professional orders, unions, and other partners have been invited to attend along with APTS representatives of lab employees.

Discussion topics will include the labour shortage, the impacts of centralization, and the accessibility of services provided to Quebecers. Together, we’ll take stock of the situation and find collective solutions for the future of medical labs – a crucial element of our public system.

SOCIO-POLITICAL ACTION
Earth Day

A number of activities will take place on April 22 to celebrate Earth Day (links below). We're looking forward to seeing you there!

April 15 to 18: Inégalités et climat déréglé : c’est assez!, a week of activities organized by the Mouvement d’éducation populaire et d’action communautaire du Québec (in French).

Montréal, April 21: Earth Day demonstration. The APTS and its banners will be there to welcome you.

Québec City, April 21: Major regional demonstration for climate and social justice.

Sherbrooke, April 22: Major Earth Day demonstration for the Estrie region.

APTS members participating in these events will do so on a voluntary basis.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY
Time to remember... and get involved

April 28 is a day to commemorate persons killed or injured in the workplace. Every year, hundreds of workers die or suffer terrible consequences that disrupt their lives and those of their loved ones.

April 28 is also a call to get involved to create a safe and healthy workplace, reminding us that we need to establish a shared culture of prevention that will help us truly take charge of workers’ health and safety.

New forms of prevention and participation set out in the Act to modernize the occupational health and safety regime will help further this goal.

UNION ORGANIZATION
The Côte-Nord has elected a new provincial representative

It’s official: the Côte-Nord has a new APTS provincial representative. His name is Kevin Newbury, and he was previously the president of the APTS local executive in Lanaudière. His long experience as an active union member will be of great benefit as he carries out his new mandate.

May Day march in Montréal

“United so that our voices are heard” will be the theme of May Day this year – International Workers’ Day, celebrated on May 1. The Coalition 1er mai, of which the APTS is a member, is organizing a demonstration in Montréal. We’re hoping many of you will join us at this major rally for social justice.
