Nova Scotia employers are seeing their workers' compensation rates drop for the first time in a generation. The average employer rate will lower to $2.25 per $100 of assessable payroll, a 15 per cent reduction that puts $75 million back into the provincial economy. The rate reduction has been made possible through careful financial stewardship, a record-low workplace injury rate that has been steadily declining for years, and more people staying connected to work after an injury.
And that same progress and sustainability has enabled improvements to worker benefits, which become effective at the same time. Starting in 2027, benefits will be indexed to the full cost of living. The change builds upon other benefit improvements effective in 2026, including better support for those left behind in the case of a workplace tragedy.
Watch what employers and industry partners had to say about the rate cut – a milestone built on accountability.
