Reminder: annual fee !

You have until March 30 to renew your GMMQ membership.

It's easy! Go to your online member area, and click on "payment of dues".

Please note! If you are renewing your membership for a tour in the United States, do it by phone so that you can apply for visas in a timely manner. Call Manon Robert at 514 842-2866, extension 245.

THINK ABOUT IT! The annual fee as well as the exercise fees on your GMMQ contracts are tax deductible. You can find all your information in the "My contracts" section of your member space.

Visas P2

We are very concerned about the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) proposal to triple the fees for P (including P2) and O visas.

If implemented, this proposal will have a devastating effect on the mobility of Canadian and international musicians who want to perform in the United States.

We want to assure you that we are working with the Canadian Federation of Musicians (CFM) to develop an action plan to fight back. Please note that any fee increase is not expected to take effect until the fall of 2023. In the meantime, AFM is actively lobbying Homeland Security and the U.S. government.

What you can do:

Write to U.S. Senators
We ask that you contact your U.S. colleagues/musicians/employers and ask them to contact their congressional representative. It is important that U.S. politicians hear that the proposed increases will have a negative impact on their constituents' businesses and incomes. Sample email to be seen here.

Si une augmentation des tarifs des Visas P2 devenait effective, cela vous ferait-il renoncer à vous produire aux États-Unis ? / If a P2 Visa fee increase becomes effective, would it make you give up performing in the US?

Bill C-11

If you believe that online businesses should make a fair contribution to the Canadian cultural ecosystem, just as traditional businesses do, to support the funding and promotion of our films, television programs and music, urge your MP to support the CEDC's demands.

For citizens and the cultural community, Bill C-11 is about fairness, creativity and freedom of expression. To understand why the entire cultural community supports it, read this and our Frequently Asked Questions.

Culture en action

This vast consultation and concerted effort to find concrete solutions to labour force problems mobilized nearly 1,500 people from various spheres of the cultural sector.

The resulting Cultural Human Resources Action Plan 2023-2028 will be officially launched on Monday, March 20, at 10 a.m. in the Arrière-Scène room of the Esplanade tranquille, at 1442 Clark Street in Montreal. Survey in progress

Are you part of a visible minority (women, 2SLGBTQQIA+ community, cultural diversity, gender diversity, disability status, aboriginal community)?

Has your difference had a negative or positive impact on your career?

Do you think you have experienced discrimination during your career?

We need your help to draw up a numerical portrait of the situation.

Please take the following survey on diversity in music. An initiative of the CAFID committee.

Recap: 5@7 Inclusion

On February 21st, the first 5@7 of the year was held with the CAFID committee. It was about discrimination in music in Quebec. A big thank you to the members who participated in this great conversation!

The event took place in the Guild's offices. The format allowed for networking with snacks and wine, and a small group discussion on the theme.

We would like to thank our guest of honor, Allison Migeon, Executive Director of the Obiora Ensemble. Her experience raised many questions that she was able to answer without any detours, which was much appreciated. The discussion touched on many cross-cutting themes, from the audition process to the experiences of people who have experienced discrimination in their careers.

We look forward to seeing you again on unifying themes at a future 5@7.

In memoriam

It is with a heavy heart that we learned of the death of trombonist Claude Blouin on June 8, 2022. He became a member of the GMMQ in 1956.

A professional freelance musician for 35 years, he played in Montreal nightclubs during the good old days and had many engagements. He was much involved in the production of ballroom dancing music, played on television shows, album recordings, film music, at Expo 67, and even had the chance to play at the 1976 Olympic Games. He considered his career to be rewarding and interesting.

He had the opportunity to accompany international stars such as Nat King Cole, Judy Garland, Liberace and many others.

Claude Vézina, trombonist and baritone euphonium player, died on January 31, 2023. He became a member of the GMMQ in 1950 and a life member in 1990.

In the 60's, he was the 1st trombone of the Quebec Symphony Orchestra.

He had the chance to play for the circus at the Colisée de Québec, under the direction of Mr. Wilfrid Pelletier, for the Grand Orchestre de Roland Martel at the Château Frontenac and in Europe with the Harmonie des Cascades de Beauport.
