MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING FORMALIZED

Capilano University (CapU) and the District of Squamish formalized their partnership today, as leaders signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will guide existing and future collaborations.

The MoU outlines District of Squamish and CapU’s shared goals to increase opportunities for learners to access educational programs, work-integrated learning and funding for creative activity, research and scholarships, as well as professional development for faculty.

SPLASH PARK AND PLAYGROUND DESIGN SURVEY OPEN

The District of Squamish is developing a Splash Park and Playground at Brennan Park Recreation Centre!

The design process is now underway, and we want to hear from you about what DESIGN FEATURES* you want to see at your future park and playground. Share your thoughts and ideas by taking our survey on Let's Talk Squamish! The survey closes at 5 p.m. on March 1.

*The new splash park will be designed with the consideration of water conservation, ongoing costs, drainage and other requirements. The splash park and playground will be built with a focus on inclusion and accessibility for all to enjoy.

BRENNAN PARK RECREATION CENTRE INFO BOARDS NOW ONLINE

The community was invited to a drop-in Information Night on February 1 where details on the improvements set to begin in the coming months were on display for the public. The information boards are now available to view on our website.

APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR SQUAMISH YOUTH COUNCIL'S ANNUAL GRANT

The Squamish Youth Council invites Squamish-based not-for-profit entities to apply for a $10,000 grant to go towards programming, events or initiatives that will benefit youth in our community! 

The application deadline is February 29. The annual Bear's Den event will be held at the Eagle Eye Theatre on April 24.

DEVELOPMENT REVIEW

LATEST INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS

  • University Reservoirs 2 and 3 - Construction is ongoing, with the two glass-fused steel reservoir tanks now beginning to rise on-site. These tanks have diameters of approximately 17 metres and a height of 10 meters each.
  • Wastewater Treatment Plan Expansion and Improvements – Concrete base slabs for the new circular treatment tank and new septage receiving station are now complete. Construction of the walls will continue through June.
  • Queens Way Lift Station Manhole – Ongoing construction.
  • Water Meter Installations – Water meters are being installed at Industrial, Commercial, Institutional and multi-family residential properties in Squamish. This work will take place through February at approximately 50 properties. Affected properties will be notified directly and installation times can be booked at the property owner’s convenience.

Thursdays, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

If you're 55yrs+ and have experience in speaking French, please join us at The 55 Activity Centre for group discussions conducted entirely in French on casual topics such as travel, current events, and literature. Some homework is given as a basis for the next week's discussion.

  • Westwinds: Please note there are no cashier services at Westwinds for recreational programs. All participants must pre-register and pay either online, at The 55 Activity Centre, or Brennan Park Recreation Centre before attending any program taking place at Westwinds.

  • Monthly and multi-visit passes are now available for online purchase! Choose 10 or 20 visit passes or monthly passes for admission to swimming and skating. Valid for up to two years from purchase date. Must be an active Squamish Recreation and Culture account holder to purchase. Family passes must be purchased in person.
