Sustainability Dashboard Announcements

Staff and faculty at UBC, including IRES alum Alejandra Urcelay, have created a new open data platform to share performance, increase transparency, support research, learning, operations on campus, and encourage partnerships across our region.

Anyone can explore dashboards and visualizations to understand sustainability trends and download the latest open data under a creative commons license for further exploration and analysis. CoSphere

To truly address climate change, we need to change the very systems we live and work in.

cosphere.net, a new platform by Dr. Kai Chan, is seeking young activists and folks (including expert scientists) who can articulate the science of sustainability to join their community.

CoSphere has identified

- 6 systems where huge change is needed including economy and finance

- levers to change them including incentives and laws

- and leverage points at which to apply them, including consumption.

They then provide a platform to enable these changes.

March 31st: IRES Faculty Seminar with Dr. Zimmerman

Human Rights Depend on a Non-Toxic Environment

Dr. David Boyd presented his report to the UN Human Rights Council on March 10th, calling for the end of deadly ‘sacrifice zones’, where tens of millions of people are suffering strokes, cancers, respiratory problems and heart disease as a result of toxic contamination of the environment.

The Vancouver Summer Program (VSP) is a four-week academic program for international undergraduate students.

The program provides the opportunity to take two academic courses designed by IRES faculty on climate change, sustainability and food systems.

MyCommunity Campaign for Graduate Students (SMMUG)

Graduate Studies is launching a MyCommunity Campaign focusing on building graduate student community via our shared intranet platform (https://community.grad.ubc.ca). Students can view discussion boards and events, but also find other students with similar hobbies, interests and form connections.

The link to the toolkit, graphics for social and suggested wording for posts is accessible in UBC OneDrive

The campaign launched today, and will go until the beginning of May. You can share messaging with your graduate student audiences at any time, and there is a schedule of posts included in the toolkit.
