Council approved the operating budget for Recreation Services for inclusion in the Draft 2026-2030 Five-year Financial Plan Bylaw. The next Standing Committee on Finance Meeting is scheduled for March 3 at 4:45 pm At this meeting staff will present the General Government Services operating budget and property taxation and reserve contributions. On Tuesday, January 27, Columbia Basin Trust informed staff that the Town of Golden was successful in a recent grant application seeking funding for the park block. Council approved the contribution agreement valued at $400,000. The project will support the addition of a beginner skate and bike park, a year-round heated washroom and skating changeroom, and climate-resilient landscaping, to the park area located on the Mount 7 Rec Plex Block. Council endorsed the Columbia Shuswap Regional District's (CSRD) resolution titled "Provincial Certification for Mosquito Control Drone Technology" and submitted the resolution to the Association of Kootenay Boundary Local Government. This will help advocate to the provincial government to allow for the use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) or drones for mosquito control as a cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and efficient alternative for aerial larvicide application. | Golden to Nicholson Trail
Council approved the reallocation of $110,357.00 in Golden and Area A Economic Opportunity Fund (EOF) monies originally approved for the Golden and Area A Trail Alliance to the Golden to Nicholson Active Transportation Corridor capital project. These funds will be used by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) for the delivery of the Golden to Nicolson Active Transportation Corridor project, including the consulting costs required to bring the project to a 'tender ready' stage. The Town's FireSmart Coordinator gave a presentation and update to Council on the Golden Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan (CWRP). The CWRP's purpose is to enhance community safety and preparedness by identifying wildfire hazards, outlining action items, and implementing FireSmart principles to reduce wildfire risk to life, property and infrastructure. View the presentation here. Pine Drive Sanitary Main Replacement
Council authorized a budget amendment to increase the 2026 carry‑forward project budget to $1,260,000, with $670,000 funded through Sewer Surplus and the balance from the Sewer Capital Reserve for the Pine Drive sanitary main replacement project. Council also directed staff to proceed with retendering the project under the revised $1,260,000 budget. This project will support design and construction of a sanitary main running parallel to Pine Drive, which would strategically relieve the overcapacity-pipe issue and support additional growth on the north bench. Our crews work to keep priority routes and areas clear and safe. This includes major road corridors critical to commuters, emergency vehicles, and school routes, and major walkways that are heavily used by commuters and those in business districts. Don't forget, that it can take several days for an initial clean-up after a large snow event. - Keep vehicles off roadways and out of alleyways leading up to and after a storm event.
- Keep roads, alleyways and boulevards clear of anything else that might obstruct snow removal or emergency vehicles.
- Watch for snow removal and parking restriction signs and adhere to all posted signs.
- When clearing driveways, clear to the right when facing the street and try to wait until the equipment has gone through at least once. Crews often return to widen roads which results in additional windrowing across driveways. Shoveling out onto the roadways is a bylaw offense.
Please don't interrupt or approach equipment operators. For your safety, maintain a distance from equipment and allow operator staff to do their work. This position will plan and lead the ongoing maintenance of all light vehicles owned and operated by the municipality, including light trucks and cars powered by diesel, gasoline, or hybrid systems. As a relief equipment operator, the position may assist the equipment operations team with duties such as swamping for the vacuum/jet-rodding truck, operating loaders, winter plow trucks, bucket trucks, and assisting with crane truck operations.
