Message from Island Health

Nanaimo residents, thank you for continuing to do your part to help bend the curve and contain the COVID-19 virus. As we begin a new phase in our pandemic response with the start of our immunization program, it brings a shining light of hope. But until we can all be vaccinated we need to continue to do our part to protect our hospitals, our long-term care homes, our seniors, our elders and our community. This virus takes lives, and it spreads quickly. Community transmission of COVID-19 is still occurring in the mid-island region, which means the risk remains high for all of us.

We urge you to continue following safety precautions to keep each other safe and reduce the strain on our health care system.

Please limit time outside your home, socialize with only your immediate household or core bubble (if you live alone), avoid all non-essential travel, wash your hands, wear a mask in public indoor settings and stay home if you’re sick. By using our layers of protection, we can reduce the potential for a surge in new cases and keep us on the path of a safer and healthier 2021 for everyone.

You can keep up to date with what’s going on in our region via our COVID-19 dashboard.

PARKS, RECREATION & CULTURE

Take Caution on Trails

With recent heavy rains and winds, the City of Nanaimo's Parks, Recreation & Culture would like to remind the public to use caution when using trails, boardwalks, stairs and bridges. Many of the trails and event playground equipment are wet, slippery and possibly flooded this time of year making the terrain hazardous. To report any concerns or issues in the parks or on the trails, please contact 250-756-5200 or email parksandrecreation@nanaimo.ca

Christmas Trees Don't Go in the Green Cart

Christmas trees don’t belong in your Green Cart! Compost your tree responsibly and support a local charity by taking part in a chipping event. Please make sure all lights, tinsel and decorations have been removed.
