CITY BUDGET

Greener Giving

Nanaimo, let's strive for greener giving this year! When choosing gifts, try to select experiences and items with as little packaging as possible. Shop local, shop craft fairs, shop markets or even home made. Think edible, digital or reusable. Choose gifts that keep on giving back, ♻️ not only to family and friends, but also to the planet 🌏

Compelling Agency

There’s a magnificent new addition to the Old City Quarter. David Martinello’s large-scale sculpture, “Compelling Agency” is part of the City’s Temporary Public Art Program. Fashioned in the silhouette of a tree, its shape and colour places it in conversation with the natural growth of the park. Suspended within the frame is a slab of cedar which becomes the focus and prompts a conversation about a material that's ever-present in our daily lives.

An artist talk with David Martinello will take place at 1 pm on Saturday, December 2, at the site of the artist’s sculpture in Lions Square Park (adjacent to the Fitzwilliam & Wallace St. intersection) as part of Nanaimo Arts Council's Nanaimo Artwalk 2023.
