CHRONICLE ON AVIATION SAFETY

CHECKING YOUR ELT

Transport Canada has demonstrated that the human factor is a major contributor to the fact that ELTs  do not always work  as they should.

Is the installation compliant? Is the ELT armed? Does the ELT work? These are some questions that every driver should ask.

We have already talked about the need for regular checks of your ELT. Here is an article that will help you to demystify this essential task.

A contribution from Bernard Fortin, SERABEC provincial security officer

THANKS SERABEC

Unfortunately, a busy summer for people involved in search and rescue operations. We have all witnessed the operations that had to be deployed to carry out the many searches this summer. There were the professionals from the Royal Canadian Air Force, but we should not forget all the SERABEC volunteers who supported these operations. Their involvement in this organization requires hours and hours of training. Real volunteers. Thank you SERABEC.

The pilot community is tightly woven. We do not want to forget all the pilots and other volunteers who, without being a member of SERABEC, have contributed in their own way to this research. Thanks to you too.

FRENCH PILOT SEARCHES FLIGHT OPPORTUNITIES

Exceptionally, we send you this message from a French pilot who will be in Quebec in early October and who would like to fly over our beautiful Quebec. His call is also published on our Facebook page Accompanying Flight.

If you are interested in providing these flying opportunities, please contact the secretariat at i nfo@aviateurs.quebec .

Here is the message that our French friend has left us:

I have the opportunity to come to the US for professional reasons in early October, and I would have been very happy to continue with a short week in Quebec, at a time when the forests are glowing, with a little luck at heart of the Indian summer, and to fly over these magnificent seaplane landscapes.

I lived in Montreal in 1980 and I passed my private pilot license at Richelieu at the time. I have been coming back regularly since then and had the opportunity to pass my hydro annotation, and keep my Canadian license valid. I have subscribed to your magazine Pilote de Brousse du Québec for several years!

I fly regularly in France, where I own 2 Piper Cub, on wheels of course!

If I'm talking to you today, it's because I wanted to try to meet a pilot with his own seaplane, with whom I could go for a few days, from one outfitter to another, just for the pleasure of flying and beautiful views to contemplate.

Certainly there are several schools very well known and very expensive, which do not necessarily correspond to what I wish to do.

I flew in 1996 with Pierre Etienne de Lamarlière, Aéroloisirs, at the time at ST Donat, now at La Macaza, but I did several times a week with a Quebecker who became a friend, who no longer flies today now, the age forbidding the renewal of his medical.

We had a lot of fun sharing these moments of flights and discoveries together.

If I could meet again a Quebecer with a little time, retired for example, who would like to take us, of course I will pay the cost of the flight and the costs of accommodation during the ride, and it could be very Friendly and so different!

I know that there are seaplanes parked all over the place, and that, like our homeowners' planes, some of them fly a lot, but many fly very little. So, sharing that pleasure and sharing the costs can be a great deal. motivation for someone who has a little time and would like to take us to visit his beautiful country seen from above.

If I speak to you, it is because you touch, through your magazine, a large number of seaplane owners and enthusiasts and that maybe among them, he will be interested by my proposal.

If you had a positive feedback, thank you to share it, and I will be happy to speak immediately with the people you would recommend to me.

I will arrive at Dorval on the 6th and leave on October 11th. We would eventually be two people.

Thank you for telling me if anything is possible through you.

I remain at your disposal,

Another big thank you,

Sincerely,

Claude Bernard, Lyon, France.

Quebecker with a heart!
