ANNOUNCEMENTS

Launch of School of Kinesiology Research Publication Newsfeed

We are pleased to announce that the School has created a new webpage, listing the 100 most recent research publications written by tenured and tenure-tracked faculty members with Scopus identifiers. It does not capture publications by adjunct, clinical, teaching professors, research associates or students.

Although the feed is current, it may take up to 4 days to receive notifications of a new publication after it has been accepted by the Scopus database.

In light of the fact that UBC does not own a Research Information Management System (RIM), the code we are using to stream this newsfeed was created by Jens Locher, Assistant Dean, Strategic Technologies & Business Initiatives. The School wishes to thank Jens Locher for his kind assistance in launching this valued newsfeed. See the new Research Publication Newsfeed here.

If you have any feedback or questions regarding this service, please contact Eli Puterman at eli.puterman@ubc.ca

Congratulations to Kinesiology postdoctoral research fellow, Carly Priebe, as well as to Kelly Wunderlich and professor Guy Faulkner of the Population Physical Activity Lab, for their recently published article in Cambridge Core.

'Walk or Run to Quit' was a national program targeting smoking cessation through group-based running clinics. UBC COVID-19 Webinar: The connection between physical activity, the brain, and overall well-being during COVID-19.

November 16, 2020 | 12:00pm-1:00pm PST

Presented in partnership with AlumniUBC, the Faculty of Medicine and the UBC School of Kinesiology.

Being physically active is as good for the mind as it is for the body. In fact, the BC Provincial Health Authority recommends that people stay active during the COVID-19 pandemic to help support overall well-being. In this webinar, we will explore the role that different types of physical activity play in improving stamina, resilience, sleep, cognitive function, and how we feel and think in our everyday lives. Learn how physical activity affects the brain and helps us manage stress and trauma. Discover professional approaches to starting or maintaining a physically active lifestyle in this time of physical distancing, uncertainty and seasonal change.

Speakers include associate professor Eli Puterman (Kinesiology) and professor Teresa Liu-Ambrose (Medicine). The conversation is moderated by associate professor, Kathryn Gretsinger (Journalism).

Join the Virtual TownHall: Help shape UBC’s plan to advance health across BC and beyond

November 18 and 19, 2020

The Office of the Vice-President, Health (UBC Health) invites you to a Virtual Town Hall to join the discussion about a strategic plan. UBC Health works to help enhance the health of people and communities through education, research, and innovation. By facilitating closer linkages and collaborations across disciplines and sectors, UBC Health strengthens the university’s capacity for excellence in health.

Two Town Hall sessions will be held with the hope that this will enable those who are interested to participate in the development of the plan. Each session will begin with a short presentation on the current situation and the draft framework, followed by opportunities for feedback and questions. It is now critical that we open the conversation further to shape the plan through engagement with the broader UBC Health community. The Town Halls will be held on:

  • Wednesday, November 18, 2020 | 9:30 - 11:00am PST
  • Thursday, November 19, 2020 | 2:30 - 4:00pm PST
